Last Night’s SVU Had Two Different Endings, Depending on Where You Watched It

Caution: Spoiler Alert for This Week’s Episode of Law & Order: SVU

Today, as I revisited the Law & Order: SVU episode summary I penned last evening, I stumbled upon a comment from a reader known as Grey’s Fan:

“In the last scene you described featuring Capt. Benson and Det. Bruno, it actually didn’t occur. The episode concluded with the new character Griff encountering someone in his SUV, then heading up the steps to enter a building where the Chief resides.”

I was convinced the scene with Benson and Bruno had transpired, as I had just watched the episode and immediately chronicled it. Nonetheless, it was conceivable that I had overlooked the scene with Griffin while finalizing the article. Upon reviewing the episode on Peacock, indeed there was Griffin, approaching Tynan’s place, prompting me to update the recap to include this significant narrative twist. Griffin had just pledged his non-involvement as a mole, yet now uncertainty looms—what is the truth?

Discrepancies Between Broadcast and Streaming Endings

It turns out, the episode’s conclusion as aired on NBC and viewed on Peacock were not the same. In the broadcast viewed on NBC, the episode ended with Det. Bruno entering Capt. Benson’s office delivering news from Law & Order: Organized Crime’s Sgt. Bell: Det. Stabler had been hospitalized. This scene set the stage for the second episode of Organized Crime Season 5, which had started on Peacock earlier and was broadcasted by NBC later that evening.

Below, you can compare the two different endings:

The change was solely to better transition into the subsequent Organized Crime episode that aired later.

This isn’t the first instance of SVU presenting an alternate ending on a streaming platform. Back in 2022, during Season 23, a special Mother’s Day episode concluded with Benson unexpectedly bumping into Stabler, linking directly to an episode of Organized Crime Season 3. However, when the episode was available on Hulu the next day, that particular scene between Stabler and Benson was omitted.
