This Friday marks the debut of the DC Universe’s new Clark Kent and Lex Luthor on the big screen, with previous television actors Tyler Hoechlin and Michael Rosenbaum showing their support.
The eagerly awaited film Superman (formerly known as Superman: Legacy), penned and directed by James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, is set to premiere in cinemas on July 11. The movie features David Corenswet, known for his roles in The Politician and Lady in the Lake, as the iconic superhero Kal-El, also known as reporter Clark Kent from Daily Planet.

Rachel Brosnahan, an Emmy-winning actress from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, portrays the fearless Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult, recognized for his role in The Great, steps into the shoes of the notorious supervillain Lex Luthor.
In a recent interview with Heart UK, Corenswet revealed that he had the opportunity to exchange letters with previous actors who portrayed Superman, including Henry Cavill from 2013’s Man of Steel and Tyler Hoechlin from The CW’s Superman & Lois. Both actors offered words of encouragement, and Corenswet expressed his eagerness to meet them in person.
Corenswet shared that the advice from the former Supermen was essentially to enjoy the role. He felt that this aligns well with Superman’s character, who typically embodies a spirit of fun.
Similarly, Hoult received support from Michael Rosenbaum, a former Lex Luthor actor from Smallville, who even voiced a character in the new Superman movie. During a conversation on Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast in March 2024, Hoult felt encouraged and supported by Rosenbaum’s kindness.
Hoult appreciated the unique opportunity to discuss the role with Rosenbaum, who he watched portray Luthor during his childhood. Rosenbaum’s parting advice to “go have fun” with the character was especially meaningful to Hoult, highlighting the supportive nature of the acting community, even when taking on roles that have been previously interpreted by others.
The cast of Superman, the first installment in Gunn’s new DC Universe, is rounded out by Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Terence Rosemore as Otis.
