Studio Modijefsky Transforms Dutch Home: A Unique Design in Two Distinct Parts

A modern dining room with a long wooden table, six upholstered chairs, a sculptural pendant light, and minimal table decor. Large windows let in natural light.

In the quaint town of Rijn, the 1920s house has been transformed internally by Studio Modijefsky, who have carefully preserved its historical exterior. The designers have utilized materials such as walnut, marble, textured glass, and copper to craft interiors that embody a luxurious, timeless elegance.

The renovation began with a redesign of the floor plan to enhance flow and connectivity within the home. The central hallway, now the core of the house, is highlighted by a beautifully designed staircase bathed in natural light from a skylight above. This hallway leads to various rooms, each featuring meticulously crafted millwork and attention to detail.

Entering the living room through doors of textured glass, one finds an inviting space centered around an open fireplace with a marble frame. The room also includes extensive wall units that combine custom cabinetry and shelving ideal for displaying books and art pieces. The bespoke L-shaped sofa, upholstered in camel-toned wool, harmonizes with the large tile flooring, enhancing the room’s warmth and comfort.

Nearby, the dining area and kitchen strike a balance between warm and cool tones. The kitchen’s stainless steel island countertop offers a sleek contrast to the rich walnut of the dining table, creating a dynamic interplay of materials and colors.

Ascending the sculptural staircase with its integrated handrail, the upper floor houses bedrooms equipped with custom-designed headboards that include built-in lighting and power outlets. The bedrooms also feature extensive built-in storage solutions. In the bathroom, functionality meets design as the wide sink slab stretches over the length of the bathtub, blending utility with style.

The extension of the home, which includes areas designed to impress and entertain guests, exudes a sense of grandeur and intimacy. This section houses a bar, wellness area, and a versatile space, all styled to mirror the sophistication of a boutique hotel. The bar area is particularly striking with its brass details, a facade adorned with Zelige tiles, and a wooden block pattern set into the light terrazzo flooring.

From this vibrant bar, guests can move on to the wellness area that includes a steam room, sauna, and a jacuzzi clad in travertine. These amenities lead to an expansive outdoor terrace, offering a variety of seating options and setting the stage for a luxurious hospitality experience that feels more akin to a high-end hotel than a private home.
