Moooi Unveils Dreamy Ceramic Surfaces: Explore the Enchanting Nesting Room!

Moooi broadens its creative realm from lighting and furniture into the world of architectural surfaces with its premiere ceramic collection, The Nesting Room. This new venture is a partnership with the Italian ceramic pioneer ABK Group, and it brings Moooi’s characteristic mix of whimsy, elegance, and immersive storytelling into the realm of building materials. Made from full-body porcelain stoneware, these surfaces turn walls and floors into tranquil vistas filled with textures, patterns, and spaces for reflection.

Drawing inspiration from Moooi’s Extinct Animals theme and the rejuvenating cycles of nature, the collection features three designs – Hypnotic Owl, Reiki Rhea, and Cloistered Dove. Each design reflects the serenity, ritualistic nature, and harmony found in some of the most peaceful creatures. The backgrounds of these designs are in soft, sand-like colors providing a stable base, while intricate patterns offer a subtle dynamism and complexity. The tiles come in four flexible sizes (120×280, 120×120, 60×120, and 60×60 cm), designed to blend flawlessly throughout different spaces, allowing for creative expression in both home and commercial settings.

The unveiling of the collection occurred at Cersaie 2025 in Bologna within The Nesting Room installation at the ABK Group booth. This setup was envisioned as a series of engaging spaces promoting wellness, meditation, and safety, creating an enchanting retreat highlighted by Moooi’s lighting, furniture, and scents.

Central to the collection is the concept of stillness as an essential design element. Drawing from natural sceneries like sand dunes, volcanic fields, and organic mineral formations, The Nesting Room offers a range of subdued earth tones including Ivory, Hay, Powder, Terracotta, Concrete, and Volcano. These foundational colors set a serene architectural tone that allows textures, lighting, and patterns to emerge subtly within a space.

Enhancing the sensory experience, selected surfaces in the collection incorporate ABK’s 3DTECH technology, which adds tactile reliefs that interact with light and shadow. These three-dimensional textures are not only visually striking but are also meant to be touched, enhancing areas like bathrooms, spas, bedrooms, and wellness centers. These textured surfaces are designed to be an integral part of the interior, emphasizing the concept of experiential design elements that are meant to be both seen and felt.

Extending beyond the exhibition, Moooi’s ceramic surfaces enable designers to bring the same sense of tranquility to everyday environments. From large, dramatic slabs adorned with animal figures to smaller, repetitive decorative patterns and tactile 3D elements, each piece imparts a sense of luxury and craftsmanship to walls, floors, and bespoke furniture. Repeated motifs soften architectural lines through rhythm and texture, while a limited series of Special Edition bird panels introduce a striking, lyrical quality – silent silhouettes that bring life to the space subtly.
