Immersed in natural light and surrounded by the tranquil greenery of Pinecrest, the 6,000-square-foot home in Miami, crafted by Marcela Cure, presents a subtle alternative to the city’s typical bold design elements. Eschewing the usual vibrant gloss and prominent tropical themes, Cure has created an interior that emphasizes softness, utilizing subtle materials, restrained textures, and a gentle ambiance to redefine the essence of a Miami residence.

Constructed in 2013, this modern property is situated on a spacious, beautifully landscaped plot featuring a large swimming pool and wide-open grassy areas, perfect for blending indoor and outdoor living. Cure’s design philosophy was inspired by these surroundings, letting the external serenity and openness guide the choices made within the home.

“The natural light at the property was extraordinary,” Cure notes, “which allowed me to opt for lighter shades and tones that I am naturally drawn to.”

The color scheme that emerged is intentionally calming, with a mix of soft pastels, muted neutrals, and subtle nude tones, accented occasionally by metallic highlights. This palette speaks to Miami’s coastal vibe in a quieter, more personal tone. Instead of using stark color contrasts or bold patterns, Cure uses nuanced color variations and contrasts in materials to add depth and intrigue. Soft brass highlights against stone; leather brings warmth to light-colored wood; and woven textures soften the clean lines of modern designs.

Natural materials are a fundamental element throughout the house. Soft neutrals flow from one room to another, while repeating textures like leather, stone, and hand-knotted rugs unify the aesthetic across the six bedrooms and six bathrooms.

The kitchen and living areas have been transformed into the central hub of the home. Here, bespoke woodwork in warm tones complements sculptural furniture and subtle metallic touches. The dining space features Luteca’s Eugenio chairs and Knoll’s Spoleto seats, whose sleek silhouettes harmonize with the home’s architecture without overwhelming it. A custom-made buffet with metallic door fronts introduces a discreetly dramatic element, capturing and reflecting the changing light of the day.

Throughout the home, Cure masterfully combines custom craftsmanship with pieces sourced from around the world. At the entrance, a large custom leather mirror and an onyx console set up a striking contrast of textures – soft versus solid, matte versus glossy – while sculptural wall sconces add a structured light. In the living room, plush B&B Italia sofas and a hand-knotted CC Tapis rug lay the foundation, with Charles Zana’s Warton side chairs providing artistic flair.

The bedrooms extend this theme with textured wallpapers, specially selected rugs from Beni Rugs and Soho Home, and lighting that offers a soft, ambient glow. The bathrooms continue in the same vein, with bespoke stone and brass vanities, sculptural mirrors, and simple fittings that emphasize form and material integrity over decoration.

While technically a secondary residence, this home serves as a primary place for family gatherings across generations. The materials were chosen for their durability and comfort, fostering an environment conducive to hosting and relaxation. Cure sums up the project as “a serene, elegant sanctuary that effortlessly merges refined design with familial warmth and gatherings.”
