Love Island USA’s Cierra Ortega Exits Season 7 After Racist Posts Resurface — Read Her Parents’ Statement

Controversial Departure of Cierra Ortega from Love Island USA

Cierra Ortega, a participant on “Love Island USA,” recently spoke out about her departure from the show, which followed the emergence of past social media posts where she used racially insensitive language.

“In certain old posts that came to light while I was on the show, I used a term that was extremely offensive and derogatory without realizing its full impact,” Ortega explained in a video on Instagram. “I want to address and apologize sincerely, especially to the entire Asian community, for the hurt caused. I was completely unaware of the painful history and implications of the word, and I regret using it regardless of my intentions at the time.”

Accountability Over Apologies

Ortega emphasized that her video was meant to be about taking responsibility rather than simply apologizing. She concurred with the decision made by Peacock to remove her from the program.

Following the controversy, Ortega revealed that her family had been harassed, including having U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) called on them, making them feel unsafe in their own home.

Ortega’s removal was announced in the July 6 episode of the dating show, with the narrator, Iain Stirling, stating that she left due to a “personal situation.” Although no further details were provided on the show, fans had been advocating for her removal after the offensive posts were discovered.

Public and Personal Reactions

In one Instagram Story, Ortega had commented on her cosmetic procedures, saying, “Botox isn’t for everyone but I love it for me!!! I am incredibly expressive with my face and I catch myself frowning for no reason throughout the day when I’m focusing on something or thinking too hard lol. I can also be a little ch—ky when I laugh/smile so I love getting a mini brow lift to open up my eyes and get that snatched look.” This post was part of the controversy surrounding her comments.

In response to the backlash, Ortega’s parents issued a statement on Instagram asking the public for compassion and decency towards their daughter amid the racism controversy. “We’ve seen the posts, the headlines, the hurt, and the hate,” the statement read. “We’re not here to justify or ignore what’s surfaced. We understand why people are upset, and we know accountability matters. But the online reaction has escalated beyond that to threats and cruel messages.”

They continued, “No one deserves that kind of hate, regardless of the mistakes they made. We know Cierra’s heart and believe she will address this honestly and with grace when she’s ready. Until then, we ask for patience and basic human decency for everyone involved.”

Network’s Response and Other Incidents

Peacock did not provide comments on the situation when approached. Ortega’s departure is not the first this season related to the use of racist language. Earlier, Yulissa Escobar exited the show after it was revealed she had used racial slurs in a past podcast.

The current season of “Love Island USA” is nearing its conclusion, with the finale scheduled for July 13.
