The prolonged legal battle surrounding Gina Carano’s contentious departure from The Mandalorian has concluded.
Disney and Lucasfilm have settled with Carano, who initiated a lawsuit against the Disney+ Star Wars series producers after her dismissal in February 2021, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The specifics of the settlement remain undisclosed.
In a statement, Lucasfilm announced: “An agreement has been reached with Gina Carano to settle the ongoing lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano has consistently been held in high regard by her directors, fellow actors, and crew. She dedicated herself to mastering her role while treating everyone with kindness and respect. With the resolution of this lawsuit, we are eager to explore potential collaborations with Ms. Carano in the future.”

Carano shared her thoughts as well, stating: “I have reached a satisfactory agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm that I believe serves the best interest of all involved. I hope this resolution can restore some balance to the Force… I’m eager to turn the page and start a new chapter. My passion remains in the creative arts, and I look forward to your continued support in my endeavors.”
Carano portrayed the role of Cara Dune, a former Rebel shock trooper who became a New Republic marshal, during the first two seasons of The Mandalorian. She was reportedly set to headline her own spinoff series. However, her role was terminated ahead of Season 3 due to controversial social media posts that were criticized as anti-trans, racist, anti-vaccine, and antisemitic, sparking a #FireGinaCarano social media campaign. A Lucasfilm spokesperson condemned her posts at the time, describing them as deeply offensive to various cultural and religious groups.
In response, Carano filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm in February 2024, alleging wrongful termination and claiming her right to free speech was infringed upon. She also accused the companies of taking retaliatory measures that hindered her from securing future employment and intentionally tarnishing her public image.
While Carano initially sought to be reinstated on The Mandalorian cast, there is no current indication that she will reprise her role as Cara Dune. (In The Mandalorian‘s Season 3 premiere, it was revealed that Cara had been recruited by the New Republic’s Special Forces team.) Looking ahead for The Mandalorian, the series is set to expand into cinemas with the upcoming movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, scheduled for release next May.
