Introducing Brooklyn’s New Architectural Masterpiece: The PEBL Grand
The skyline of Brooklyn has been graced with a new architectural marvel, the PEBL Grand, a visionary modular cabin crafted by the Hungarian firm Hello Wood. Perched on a rooftop with views of Manhattan, these pod-like structures are at the forefront of compact, sustainable architecture, combining sleek design, advanced technology, and luxurious comfort.
Hello Wood originally gained recognition through its innovative architectural camps, which served as breeding grounds for ideas that transformed into significant public installations. The studio has since grown into a comprehensive design and construction service, specializing in distinctive cabins and glamping setups that fuse art with architecture. Their initial breakout product, the PEBL One, was a small workstation cabin. The PEBL Grand builds on this concept, offering larger, more opulent modules suitable for both bustling city roofs and serene natural landscapes.

A Design that Defies Convention
The PEBL Grand’s design deviates from conventional cabin structures, resembling more a space capsule or a naturally occurring rock, thus inspiring its name. Its low-polygon, pebble-like shape challenges the typical boxy modular design, making it a perfect fit for both dense forests and urban high-rises. The construction of the PEBL Grand involves a unique system developed by Hello Wood, currently under patent application, which uses CNC-produced Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) that is both insulated and waterproof, ensuring longevity while minimizing waste and reducing assembly time. The exterior can be finished with various materials like wood, stone, aluminum, or mirrored panels, allowing each cabin to either harmonize with or stand out in its setting.
Efficient and Sustainable Construction
One of the standout features of the PEBL Grand is its rapid and eco-friendly construction process. Each unit is fully prefabricated in Europe and is shipped either as a turnkey solution or flat-packed in standard shipping containers, tailored to the destination requirements. Upon arrival, the cabins can be set up in just one day using a ground screw foundation system, which eliminates the need for concrete and reduces the environmental footprint significantly. Site preparation is minimal, often taking just a few hours, which streamlines the process, making it swift, predictable, and ideal for projects where time is of the essence. This efficient assembly ensures quick delivery while maintaining the high-quality craftsmanship associated with Hello Wood.
Despite its modest size, the PEBL Grand offers the luxury of a high-end hotel suite. Each cabin can be equipped with a king-size bed, a small kitchen, a dining area, a bathroom, and even an optional panoramic sauna. The large windows provide stunning views, and with modular additions, multiple PEBL cabins can be interconnected, expanding the available living space. The design’s compatibility with flat-packing and rapid installation makes these cabins perfect for use in glamping resorts, creative workspaces, exclusive event locations, or private sanctuaries.
In May, five units of the PEBL Grand were installed atop a Brooklyn entertainment venue, serving as chic backstage areas for performers and providing unmatched views of the Manhattan skyline. This installation showcases the adaptability of modular, sustainable, and design-centric micro-architecture in densely populated urban settings without the need for extensive construction or disruption.
“Years of dedicated research and development from our team in Budapest have culminated in the PEBL Grand’s journey to New York,” remarks Tamás Fülöp, a leading architect for the PEBL Grand project.
