Has one rotten apple caused havoc in the Grosse Pointe Garden Society?
The first season of the NBC dramedy, which is still awaiting confirmation of a second season, concluded on Friday with a shocking revelation: a member of our beloved gardening group has betrayed everyone.
In the season finale, the truth about the death of Alice’s dog is finally uncovered. Contrary to what was suspected in Episode 11, it wasn’t Patty, Alice’s mother-in-law, who was the culprit. The real perpetrator is Marilyn, the president of the garden club.

The incident, like the other mysterious death in Grosse Pointe, was an accident. In the darkness, Marilyn was defending her cat from another animal’s attack and fired her gun towards the disturbance, tragically killing Alice’s pet by mistake. After discovering the entire truth, Alice is overwhelmed by guilt for everything that has ensued. She reaches out to Brett, confessing potential romantic feelings, and then takes a dramatic step that could alter the direction of the show: she goes to the police station.
Upon arriving, she informs the police that there is something they need to be aware of and prepares to make a statement. As she sits down, presumably to confess about the death of her father-in-law, Joel attempts to stop her without success. Meanwhile, elsewhere, the group discovers that Keith’s body has been moved by Kenny and they decide to hide it in the garden’s compost bin.
The episode concludes with another leap forward in time, indicated by a carved pumpkin that reads: “Next Season.” We then see three of our steadfast gardeners—Birdie, Brett, and Catherine—reprimanding someone for their disloyalty. The identity of the individual is obscured by a costume, suggesting it might be Alice. However, given the show’s history of surprises, like Keith actually being Quiche, it could be anyone. The uncertainty remains especially because we don’t know what transpired with Alice at the police station, nor do we know if the “tweaker gas station guy” has revealed anything else about the night of the gala and the stolen bracelet. Could it be Kenny? Or perhaps Joel? Or even the gas station guy himself? The possibilities are wide open!
