From music to military technology, the leap seems minimal for Daniel Ek, CEO of Spotify. He has recently poured 600 million euros into Helsing, a German startup that specializes in military equipment. Their niche? Developing military software powered by Artificial Intelligence, notably used in Ukraine for HX-2 drones. This isn’t his first foray into this field; in 2021, Ek had already invested 100 million euros in the same company.

What does this have to do with music streaming? Not much, other than a shared interest in AI: Spotify’s team frequently incorporates “songs” created by Artificial Intelligence into its playlists, promoting bands that are completely artificial, with no regulatory measures in place.
Artists Leaving the Platform
Meanwhile, Cindy Lee, a Canadian project led by Patrick Flegel, has removed all their albums from the Swedish platform and transferred their entire discography to Bandcamp. This move would likely be applauded by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, an extremely prolific Australian rock band, which recently announced on Instagram that their new demos would be available “everywhere but on Spotify,” explicitly adding, “Fuck Spotify.”
