Unanticipated Developments in Dexter and Mia’s Relationship

If you were rooting for Dexter and Mia’s emerging relationship—whether you saw them as romantic interests or just as partners in crime—prepare for some major developments.

In the latest episode of Dexter: Resurrection, the plot between Dexter and Mia thickens as Mia proposes a shocking idea: a threesome. However, her suggestion doesn’t involve a romantic escapade but rather a joint venture in committing a murder with Dexter’s alter ego, the Dark Passenger. Dexter reacts with caution and skepticism to her plan, while his mentor Harry is explicitly opposed. Moreover, there’s a looming risk that Mia could expose Dexter’s secret identity to Prater, potentially unleashing chaos. (The complexities of identity theft can indeed be messy.)

However, Dexter soon uncovers a troubling truth about Mia: she lacks a moral code. “I just enjoy killing,” she confesses to him, “and I act on that urge when it arises.” The moniker ‘Lady Vengeance’ was merely a media invention to sensationalize her story. Contrary to what the public believes, her victims are not predators; she is the true predator, eagerly anticipating her next kill tonight.

Just as they are about to take a rideshare, Dexter decides to end their partnership. Mia is furious but nonetheless goes off in search of another victim. Meanwhile, Dexter sneaks into her apartment not to kill her but to set her up. Since it would raise suspicions if two of Prater’s team vanished after a new member joined, Dexter opts for a subtler approach. He plants Ryan Foster’s watch among Mia’s collection of trophies, secures a spot across the street to watch the events unfold, and calls the police just before Mia can attack her new prey. The police arrive in time, arrest her, and discover the watch along with other incriminating evidence. Dexter’s plan works flawlessly.

New Bonds and Revelations

The fifth episode also sees Dexter and his son Harrison growing closer. After stopping Harrison from confessing to the police, Dexter explains his survival and absence from prison. He also opens up about his knowledge of Ryan Foster. Struggling with guilt and haunted by nightmares, Harrison realizes he and his father are not as alike as he thought. He informs Dexter that he has spoken to Detective Batista, but reassured his father that he disclosed nothing significant. Dexter isn’t worried, confident that Batista doesn’t have anything substantial—at least for now.

Meanwhile, Detective Batista remains in New York City. While on duty, he is stunned to see a news broadcast announcing Lady Vengeance’s arrest for the murder of Ryan Foster, news that also shocks Harrison. Dexter takes this opportunity to finally reveal the truth to Harrison about Rita’s death and the Trinity Killer and vows never to push him toward a path like his own again. Dexter expresses his desire to keep the family together, emphasizing that Harrison is all he has left. The father and son come to a heartfelt reconciliation.

Elsewhere, Charley visits Mia in prison. She assures him that she won’t seek help or make any foolish moves. Charley informs her that their “mutual friend” appreciates her cooperation and will ensure that her prison stay is both comfortable and brief. This hints at possible further complications.
