Alert: More Mail Thefts Reported in Decatur
Decatur Metro | February 4, 2014A resident wrote in a reported mail thefts reported in the northeast quadrant of Decatur. These thefts come just weeks after a rash of mail thefts in the Lenox Place neighborhood.
We inquired with Decatur PD and they provided these details…
Decatur Police are currently investigating four reports of mail theft that occurred during the overnight hours on Oak Lane, Glendale Avenue, Sycamore Street and West Pharr Road.
Complainants have reported their mail being found strewn on the ground and in bushes. In one case, the complainant retrieved their mail this morning and discovered an empty package, which contained a small jewelry item, left behind. At this time, no other items have been reported missing.
Please promptly remove mail from your mailbox once it is delivered and if you observe someone walking through your neighborhood going to multiple mailboxes, call police immediately and provide a detailed description of the person, what they are wearing and what direction they are going.

We also had someone go through our mail last week on Oakland Street. They opened it and left it scattered by the mailbox. Nothing was missing, so I’m assuming they were just looking for money or checks.
West Pharr Road??? NOW they’ve gone too far.

@DM you can delete my previous comment – package showed up today even though tracking says it was delivered Monday!
I have had the same problem with tracking info being unreliable, even more extreme. The tracking has said that the package was delivered and then the package showed up a week later, clearly not even close to delivered on the so-called delivery date. It seems particularly deceptive because the tracking shows the intermediate distribution stops all along the way which makes the final delivery info seem all the more credible. I believe that instance was with FedEx. But it’s happened on a lesser level before, I’m not sure with which mail/package services. I don’t think you can rely on those tracking notes anymore.
