The Best Olive Oil for the Money
Decatur Metro | June 5, 2013
I thought of a REALLY good “for the money” idea in the last week, but alas, it is now lost in the dustbin of my mind. For now, I’ll steal another of Daydreamer’s excellent suggestions from a week or so back.
It’s definitely a staple in my kitchen. What’s the best olive oil for the money?

Castrol GTX
For the money, Costco’s EVOO from Tuscany in the 1L bottle. Also their 100% Italian EVOO in the 2L bottle. Both a little over $10.
+1 My grandmother dated (but didn’t marry) a merchant marine and she loved watching reruns of Popeye with us.
After spending a fortune on some fancy olive oil that Ina Garten recommends, I was told in a cooking class that Costco has great olive oil.
The olive oil pressed from trees on my dad’s girlfriend’s CA ranch, when gifted to me:) If they break up, I’m going to have to look to other recs on this list.
Strippaggio recently opened at Emory Point. They have a ton of artisan olive oils with different flavors & are also on ScoutMob right now. They also have amazing vinegars — I bought a Sauvignon Blanc vinegar to make dressing & it’s amazing!!! http://www.strippaggioevoo.com
The owner/woman who was working there when I went was super nice & helpful & you can sample everything.
We splurged on some McEvoy Ranch limited release olive oil last visit to San Francisco and it’s great if expensive.
+1 for the Costco EVOO…
No one has mentioned Trader Joe’s California Estate yet? It’s not all that pricey comparatively, and was top-rated by Consumer Reports a while back as the second best EVOO period.
I’m no expert, but it has a nice flavor to it.
Yes, I agree! A good price, and it’s from California . . . meaning it can’t be adulterated. (Or so they say.)
That same Consumer Reports article rated the Whole Foods store brand olive oil pretty high and a bargain. i tried it once and it was OK. But now I get my EVOO at YDFM.
We go to Oli and Ve in Buckhead for dipping olive oil. It isn’t the cheapest, but it is, for us, the best for the money. You can try all of the oils and you bring back your bottle and pay a reduced amount. They also have these amazing herbs that you sprinkle in the olive oil. Heaven!
I am fond of the Kallisto olive oil from YDFM. Very fruity, and I find the cost reasonable.
