Last month Philip Rafshoon, former owner of Outwrite bookstore, was named Program Director for the AJC Decatur Book Festival, replacing Terra McVoy, who wanted to devote more time to her writing. And now this, from Daren Wang, Executive Director:

Diane Capriola Will Lead Programming for the Younger Readers

for the Largest Independent Book Festival in the Country

January 8, 2013 (Decatur) — The AJC Decatur Book Festival (AJC DBF) is proud to announce that Diane Capriola, co-owner of Decatur’s renowned Little Shop of Stories bookstore, will step into the newly created role of Manager of Children and Teen Programming, effective immediately.

Daren Wang, AJC DBF Executive Director, is looking forward to officially collaborating with Capriola, a festival supporter since day one. “In some ways, it seems odd to announce that Diane Capriola has come on to handle children and teen programming for the festival. Diane has always been so involved that it’s hard to believe we’ve just now found a way to formalize her work on the festival,” he said. “As one of the smartest booksellers to children in the country, we are lucky to have her in our community and on our team. A stroll on the Decatur Square isn’t complete without popping into Little Shop to find out what she has cooking there.”

Capriola and the nationally recognized Little Shop of Stories have been an integral part of the DBF since its inception. Now, with an official festival title, Capriola is ready to make her mark.

“Little Shop of Stories has long been an involved supporter of DBF, an organization whose purpose is so close to my heart, and whose work has made such an important impact on families and kids. I’m honored to be working in an official capacity this year as the Manager of Children and Teen Programming,” she said.

Capriola is on the American Booksellers Association (ABA) advisory board, as well as the advisory board of the ABA’s ABC Children’s Group, which provides “programs specifically aimed at growing and expanding the reach of children’s books to a wide audience of both consumers and booksellers.”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical (AJC DBF) is the largest independent book festival in the country, and the fourth largest overall. Over Labor Day weekend (Aug. 30-Sept. 1), tens of thousands from Metro Atlanta and beyond will share the historic downtown Decatur Square with world-class authors, illustrators, editors, publishers, and booksellers for a weekend filled with literature, music, food, and fun.
