The Pinewood Now Open for Lunch

Decatur Metro | September 17, 2012

Decatur lunchers now have another lunch option if they’re looking for a noon day lunch out on the town.  A bit of news from a restaurant that’s only been open in the evenings to-date…

The Pinewood located in Decatur is now serving lunch for sit-down and on-the-go diners, Monday through Friday from 12-2 p.m.

Guests may either call in their order or order at the counter. Diners who place their lunch order to go will receive their meal in a brown-bag with napkins and utensils inside.

The new lunch menu includes sandwiches, salads and soup, as well as side items. All sandwich options include the choice of any side item. Along with the aim to serve tasty, chef-driven food, The Pinewood is also committed to providing healthy menu options.

What Do You Pack In Your Child’s Lunch?

Decatur Metro | September 17, 2012

DTR writes in…

I’ve been thinking a lot about the discussion a couple weeks ago regarding school lunches. My children bring their lunch on most days (except pizza day, of course), and I need some inspiration. Would it be possible to post a question about what school kids bring for lunch? Of course, I’m looking for a good combination of healthy, variety and kid-friendly.

Fifth Avenue Bicycle Safety Training Volunteers Needed

Decatur Metro | September 17, 2012

Decatur City Commissioner Fred Boykin sends along this call for volunteers from Decatur Active Living’s Cheryl Burnette…

Decatur Active Living and the Safe Routes to School Program will be doing Bicycle Safety Training for the 4th grade students at Fifth Avenue. We will be teaching on Thursday, Sept 20, Friday Sept. 21 and Monday-Wednesday, Sept 24-26. All teaching occurs on the Fifth Avenue School Playground.

We need volunteers! Volunteers have the choice of the following times each day:

  • 7:45- 10am
  • 9:45 – 11:45am
  • 12:15 – 2:15pm

Please let me know which day(s) and time(s) you might be able to assist. You do not need to know how to ride a bicycle. We will be teaching them basic signals, and other various skills. We can train you on the job!

Please consider giving a few hours of your time to help with teaching the children how to ride their bicycles safely. It is loads of fun seeing how excited the children get.
