Greene’s Beer, Wine and Soda Shop Now Open

Decatur Metro | July 3, 2012

You may recall a while back we reported that Greene’s Fine Foods on East Trinity, which specialized in fudge, candy and ice cream would soon be expanding into the world of adult beverages; including wine, beer and growlers.  Tommy writes in to tell us that “Greene’s Growlers, Craft Beer, Wine, and Soda shop is now open for business!”

To get an idea of the 16 beers currently on tap at Greene’s new Growler station, see the pic above.

Credit Card Friendly Parking Meters are Decatur’s Next Parking Project

Decatur Metro | July 3, 2012

Big news for Decatur parkers who don’t carry around much coinage these days.

During discussion of purchasing new parking control equipment for the Decatur Conference Center last night, Mayor Bill Floyd followed up with Asst. City Manager Lyn Menne about when the city would move forward with plans of replacing all 301 coin-only city parking meters with new meters that also accept credit and debit cards.

“That is the next project.  We’re going to be issuing requests for proposals to purchase that equipment now that it has been approved.”

Follow up questions by Commissioner Fred Boykin clarified that the meters would take credit and debt cards in addition to coins and that all 301 city meters would probably be replaced, depending on the cost per meter.

Heat or Storms Could Cause Cancellation of Decatur’s July 4th Events

Decatur Metro | July 3, 2012

Decatur’s Catherine Lee writes on The Decatur Minute…

Due to extreme weather conditions (heat and possible thunder storms), please be advised that the City of Decatur will be monitoring the temperatures on Wednesday, July 4th and may decide, in the interest of public safety, to cancel some or all of the planned holiday events including the Pied Piper Parade, the Concert on the Community Bandstand, and the fireworks.

Updates will be made on this blog and we recommend that you check the site often for timely reports and possible schedule changes.

Let’s hope we don’t have a repeat of last year…
