LOL. Love this from the Ray Bradbury talk above…
“LIVE IN THE LIBRARY. LIVE IN THE LIBRARY FOR CHRISTSAKE. Don’t live on your goddamn computers and the internet and all that crap. Go in the library.”
Such a backwards notion from a futurist.
Agreed -
Heck, he lives in LA and has never driven a car. His dislike of the internet seems pretty logical after that.
Indeed. He admits there are great uses for the internet, but he’s giving advice to writers. Creativity and the interweb are dangerous bedfellows. Yes, I’m intentionally mixing metaphors.
We should do a mixed metaphors post!
Having lived in LA, I find that amazing. What does he do, ride a horse?
I don’t know, I think Fahrenheit 451 is pretty much in line with the idea that TV and by extension (I’ll make that leap) the internet, erodes the physical reading of books. Some of you may point to the rise of e-books, and that is a good debate to have, but how long until books are made with the computer in mind, so your e-book can contain animations, and explosions, and all sorts of eye candy that take away from the imagination required of a physical book.
Always amazed at how much Emily Dickinson has improved since I was in high school.
Funny!
Hey Bobby, I know you’re stewing on whether or not to even bother trying to talk to us about T-SPLOST again. Please do. Besides paying very close attention to everything you’ve ever said on it, I’ve been following the comments on Thomas’ CL article, East Atl Patch, and reading the other local sources, and I’m very near a NO vote. Please outline an Option B as you see it.
