Decatur Metro | May 8, 2012

Ann writes in…

[The Decatur High School Varsity boys lacrosse team is] playing in the first round of the state playoffs this Wednesday May 9 at 7:30 at the DHS stadium. We will be playing Starrs Mill High School. Booster club passes are not valid for playoffs. Admission is $7/person.

The DHS lacrosse team is 11 – 5 for regular season play. We are the #1 seed for Area 4 in GHSA Class A-AAAA. If you are interested in the brackets go to www.ghsa.net and click on athletics and then select lacrosse. This is the first time the DHS boys lacrosse team has won the Area which was sealed when they beat St. Pius for the first time 3-2. Crowd support is going to be a key factor in our boys playing their best so please come out and cheer on our lax dawgs!

Decatur Police: Be on the Lookout for “Suspicious Person” in Toyota Prius

Decatur Metro | May 8, 2012

The city’s Linda Harris forwarded this Decatur Police Department press release from Chief Mike Booker…

On Monday May 7, 2012 at approximately 5:30 pm, the Decatur Police Department was notified of an attempt by a stranger to lure a child into a motor vehicle near the 600 block of Commerce Drive. The juvenile male was approached by a black male driving a black Toyota Prius. The unknown subject attempted to entice the juvenile into the vehicle by offering him a free dog. The juvenile male subsequently fled on foot.

The suspect left the scene in an unknown direction. He is described as follows:
Black Male
20-30 years of age
Close cropped hair cut
Goatee, to include a 2-3 inch beard.

The vehicle is described as follows:
Black Toyota Prius with tinted windows displaying an unknown Georgia Tag.
Anyone observing this vehicle should contact the Decatur Police Department at 404-373-6551.

The “600 Block of Commerce Drive” seems to be just north of the intersection with East Ponce de Leon Ave.

Living Wall… Deceased!

Scott | May 8, 2012

Okay, that sounds a little melodramatic. The real point is that, sometime in the recent past, a DM commenter had wondered the fate of the Living Wall mural on Oakhurst’s former Big H strip, now that Family Dollar is moving in.

This photo apparently answers that question.

Not a huge surprise. I have to assume that national brand tenants have less appreciation for the funkier things, what with all their “consistency of customer experience” mandates and whatnot. Not to mention the fact that community sentiment on that particular execution was decidedly mixed anyways.
