My father used to drive an old car that looked like that, aquamarine blue. Only I think it had some fins that stuck up. Embarrassed the heck out of me in high school.

And the car seen in this previous Eye on the Street photo is behind the “SEE …” sign. It has a little front end damage.

The hardware store letters were going up above the Oakhurst Church end of the building – done by now. I sure hope Billy Bob is on set when filming begins.

And no it’s not distasteful. Are you referring to the artists in progress painting the set? The bearded guy in the middle “got me” when he shouted, “No pictures please” just as I clicked. He followed with “just kidding” thank goodness.

Does anyone else find this incredibly distasteful?

        In what respect?

        A distasteful movie? No way.

I’m assuming that the movie is trying to recreate the old-timey, not-too-savory, carney atmosphere which is by definiton pretty crude–bearded ladies and other human anomalies.

        No.

        Not particularly.

You do realize that this is a movie set and not an actual attraction, right?

      Will Billy Bob be there?

Filming on Tuesday. Signs for no parking 6 am – 5 pm along W. Hill St. and Oakview Rd. Solarium is now Morrison Municipal Hospital. Actors in the movie include Robert Duvall, John Hurt, Kevin Bacon, Dennis Quaid.

Mostly vacant “Big H” strip shopping center once home to Colonial Grocery and now Oakhurst Church has been converted to Donovan’s Discounts and a carnival booth. The Solarium Community Center once home to Scottish Rite Hospital has a new identity as Morrison Memorial Hospital. Should be a busy day in the Oakhurst Village.

I think the Big H looks great! Maybe someone will drive by and see it’s potential and move in! How exciting for Oakhurst!

I wonder if they can leave the hardware store up. It’s the best this place has looked in a while!

my thoughts exactly! even if it isn’t a functioning store it sure looks the best that place has ever looked in the 11 years we’ve lived here.

Quick – someone get the tax assessor out there to update the property valuation while it looks ok.

My wife say saw Billy Bob Thorton (Director) outside the Solarium. Billy Bob said that the movie stars Kevin Costner an Kevin Bacon. How cool!

The Movie is called “Jayne Mansfield’s Car” and stars Robert Duvall and Kevin Bacon. They filmed for three days in June in downtown Cedartown, they spruced it up pretty good getting it to look like 1969. Supposed to be a town in Alabama.
