ARC Cuts Transportation List Three Ways, Clifton Corridor MARTA Line Called “Prohibitively Expensive”

Decatur Metro | July 22, 2011

The Transportation Executive Committee met yesterday in their first attempt to finalize the project list that will be put before voters next year when they go to the polls and decide whether they want to pay another penny in sales tax for transportation projects around the 12-county metro region.

As Mayor Bill Floyd said according to the AJC, “We’ve gotten to the crunch point.”

At yesterday’s meeting, the Atlanta Regional Commission provided the 6-member, 5-voting Transportation Roundtable Executive Committee with three sets of recommendations for the 2012 vote – one with an emphasis on roads(pdf), one with an emphasis on transit (pdf)and one that was “balanced” (pdf).  While no final decisions were made yesterday – one sticking point according to Green Building Chronicle has to do with how transit operating expenses are being calculated – there’s already a definite “direction” being taken by the Exec Committee in whittling down the list.  The AJC article on the subject says it best…

Suburban Lanes Robbed Last Saturday

Decatur Metro | July 22, 2011

Just reported this morning, but the article says this event took place Saturday morning.

North Druid Hills Patch reports that Suburban Lanes bowling alley was robbed by armed gun man last Saturday morning around 2:30am.  Here’s a blurb…

Two bowling alley employees were working at about 2:30am when two suspects carrying guns entered the building at 2619 North Decatur Rd. either by using a key or coming through an unlocked door, the police report said.

The suspects stole $2,600 from the cash office’s unlocked safe and kicked in the manager’s office door to disengage the security cameras and steal two laptop computers worth about $2,000. The incident was recorded, however, the report said.

Skateraid Looking for Volunteers

Decatur Metro | July 22, 2011

Cathy writes in…

The 7th annual SkaterAid 2011 Skate & Music Festival will be held on 9/25/11 (Sunday) 2:00p – 7:00pm at East Decatur Station to raise funds for the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children and honor the life of Ian Wochatz.   This is the first call for volunteers.  I am looking for volunteers to help out in many areas with this great Decatur event.    We have an early shift (2p-4:30p) and a late shift (4:30p-7p), but also some earlier and later times for set-up and break-down., as well as other areas that would involve assisting in the art auction.      Please contact Cathy Keeler at for a volunteer shift.

Please visit our website:  http://www.skateraid.net  and join the SkaterAid fan page on FaceBook!
