Seriously, this crime and the robbery at gun point after jazz at the solarium is creeping me out! We have so many late night activities here in Decatur. We have to beef-up police protection. I don’t want to seem petty, but I get really miffed when I see 2, yes 2, Decatur police cars on College trying to catch speeders, and then I am worried about leaving the solarium after jazz or Leon’s late at night. Just sayin.
Thanks for that. I feel a little better now. On the bright side, it has been very rainy this week and a lot of trees and limbs are falling all over town, so there’s reason to be hopeful.
If this continues, it is going to be bad news. One of the reasons alot of people move to Decatur is the nightlife/walking to restaurants at night etc. It is well worth the extra expenditure, if necessary, to step up police activity around all the pockets of retail at night. Admittedly, this can happen at any time, but this would be a start. Also, nightime retail/restaurant activity is a vital part of our city’s economy. This should be a priority for our city government over anything else. If it continues, aside from the horror that innocents will be hurt, but, a secondary problem is our city will become less valuable and usable to us. Where are these vicous people coming from? I would be interested to know that. I hope this woman is okay.
where do you think they are coming from….Atlanta, unincorporated DeKalb, East Point, etc….I could go on. The thugs don’t come over here often because they know what will happen, but once in a while, one slips through. My guess is they won’t make that mistake again, but the realization is that NO community is immune from crime. To do what everyone wants would require the police to double the size of their force, and no one wants to pay for that.
To toocool, the only reason you would complain about traffic enforcement is that you got stopped and got a ticket. That is part of the police department’s job also.
Honestly, so long as it wasn’t outrageous, I would be willing to pay more for police protection. Not only to protect innocent people, but, as I mentioned above, if – IF – it became a growing trend here, it affects desire to move here, which affects our property value, and also, I want to be able to use my city’s wonderful restaurants and pubs without fear. If I had parked where these victims parked, I would not have thought twice. This was out in the open, like other situations we have read about. But mostly I don’t want anyone else to be hurt. I know they are from surrounding areas – I guess it was more of a rhetorical question.
Agree not Susan on all points but on the last post I was told it is unproductive for us to freak out- by freaking out it doesn’t have to mean go crazy- just that everyone stay on top of this stuff and help make Decatur a place where thugs do not want to Play this game- like you said if we don’t , Decatur will fall because we want to be able to use our restaurants , live music without fear of where we walk or park!
“these guy” 1 or 2? Picky BUT smart @$$ guy is bait.
Carjackings can happen anywhere. Do you shop at Lenox? There. What about Publix? There. Or The Tabernacle for a show? There. ITP or OTP? There.
Just like everyone else I want to feel safe, to have confidence in my police department to be proactive. Crime is opportunistic and this guy saw a right scenario and jumped on it.
We have choices – publicize the crime to catch the perp; keep it quiet to protect our city image. I say catch the perp.
-1 for attempt at humor. That sketch doesn’t remotely resemble Lenny Kravitz.
I work in downtown Decatur, live in East Lake and hang out quite a bit in Oakhurst. From my vantage point, DPD is EVERYWHERE, almost to the point of seeming overbearing.
I think these latest incidents are more examples of exceedingly brazen criminals.

+1
I’m surprised the truck hasn’t turned up somewhere by now.
my thoughts as well
I’m depressed that my hopeful prediction of this scumbag wrapping the car around a pole and dying didn’t come to pass.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed! don’t give up hope!

If they have the actual tag number, can’t they get an address and go knock on the door and see if the perp pictured above answers?
The tag is from the car they carjacked.

we need some of these less evolved animals to be taken out by a citizen defending himself to make them think twice…
I didn’t know Lenny Kravitz lived around here.
