Winnona Park Elementary Receives State’s Highest Honor for CRCT Scores

    Decatur Metro | January 12, 2011

CSD’s Bruce Roaden forwards the announcement…

Winnona Park Elementary School Awarded Platinum Award for the Greatest Gains in CRCT Scores

The Georgia Department of Education and the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement recognized Winnona Park Elementary School as being one of 46 Georgia schools whose students made the most gains on their CRCT scores from the 2008-2009 school year to the 2009-2010 school year.

In order to qualify for the Platinum Award (the highest honor given) for greatest gains, Winnona Park met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) three years in a row, had more than 35% of students exceeded standards, and was in the 98th percentile of Georgia schools that made the greatest gains in the meets and exceeds levels in the CRCT.

Congratulations Winnona Park ES. Very few schools statewide achieve Platinum status in the SSAS. The community as a whole, the district, and the local school staff are to be commended for excellence.

      And now …
I’ve been checking in on DM since this announcement was posted and I am saddened to still see only 2 posts. All of the school closing, road status, sled/photo threads continue to add comments. Sad commentary in itself, don’t you think Decatur Metro?

‘Tis a good observation Sharron and perhaps if I had provided a bit more context it would have garnered more responses, but don’t be too hard on the masses. There’s definitely a herd mentality on commenting. When a story really dominates the comments. – as the snow has – it can actually prevent comments on other subjects. I haven’t thought it through enough to really guess as to why, but I’ve felt and experienced it numerous times on this site.

          I like sad waffles–and when I can’t figure out why they’re sad.

I always see Decatur teachers at Kavarna on the weekends preparing lesson plans, hard at work and so dedicated. Yay for awesome teachers, yay for Winona Park.

I guess this makes it an added bonus that we are being redistricted there in the fall! Good job Winnona!
