Water Main Break Will Close Decatur Intersection for Days

Decatur Metro | December 11, 2010

We just received our Code Red Alert on this.

According to the nameless female voice in the recorded message, a water main break occurred today at the intersection of East College Avenue and East Trinity Place in Decatur.

Some residents have reported low water pressure or complete disruption of service as a result of the break.  DeKalb County is working to restore water service in the next 12 hours.

However – and here’s the kicker – that intersection will remain closed for AT LEAST the next 5 days as repairs are made.  According to the message, a detour route has been established, but man is that gonna create a mess for traffic in that area over the next week.

There is no “boil water” alert at this time.

Food Consumption Taking Place in Decatur Diner

Decatur Metro | December 11, 2010

First there was paint.  Then there were lights.  Then there were signs.  Lots of them.  Then there we place settings.  Now there is documented proof of “eating activity” inside the long unopened Decatur Diner.

David sends in this picture of people sitting around a table in Decatur Diner last night.  Upon closer inspection, he reported that they were eating pizza.

Is it open?  Who knows.  I refuse to speculate on this place anymore.

But here is a picture of some people enjoying a meal amidst the neon and fluorescent.  I leave the details to your imaginations.

City Schools of Decatur Taking Over “Birth to Age Three” Program at College Heights

Decatur Metro | December 11, 2010

Michael sends along this note from Superintendent Phyllis Edwards to College Heights to parents  announcing that after an extensive search for a partner to run the city’s 0-3 childcare program, the school system has decided to just do it themselves.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

For the past four months, City Schools of Decatur (CSD) has conducted an extensive search for new partnership for our birth to age three program. I contacted and/or met with five (5) possible early learning providers and invited them to submit a proposal and make a presentation to the College Heights ECLC Advisory Council. On October 20, 2010, two of those invited providers, Metro YMCA and City Schools of Decatur, chose to submit a proposal and to present to the Advisory Council. The Advisory Council then made a recommendation and submitted it to me for my consideration.

On Monday, November 29,2010, the CSD Board of Education met in a Special Session to discuss and act on the selection of the new partner for our birth to age three program.

After careful consideration and discussion, the Board continued their commitment toward providing a high quality educational programs; therefore, CSD will operate the College Heights ECLC birth to age three program beginning January 3, 2011.
