Willow at Superior Water Main Break Continues to Flood Area

Decatur Metro | April 14, 2011

Leslie sends in this incredible photo of the current state of things at the intersection of Willow Lane and Superior Ave after a water main broke yesterday (and then broke again today).  Residents in the area are again without water.  Here’s Leslie’s report…

Water was restored very briefly this afternoon and then they found a leak in the line connecting the water and the fire hydrant on the corner of Superior and Willow. This leak blew out and created a muddy pool of water in the hole, which is 15 feet deep. No one was hurt – one worker was in the hole at the time of the blow out and he managed to get out safely. They have turned the water off again and brought in a pump truck to clear the water out of the hole. Still no word as to when service will be restored.

My kids were totally awed by the spectacle and it has been a great excuse to socialize with the neighbors and the friendly, hard working fellows in DeKalb County’s Watershed Management Department. No, I’m not being sarcastic. They are really nice.

Glendale Water Main Break

Decatur Metro | December 17, 2010

Daren reports there’s no water coming from the taps in the Glennwood Estates neighborhood and follows up with a note that reports that DeKalb County has hit a water main on Glendale Avenue.

The note goes on to say that the County hopes to have the water back on by the end of the day.  No word yet on whether there will be a “boil water” alert imposed once the water’s running again.

Water Main Break Will Close Decatur Intersection for Days

Decatur Metro | December 11, 2010

We just received our Code Red Alert on this.

According to the nameless female voice in the recorded message, a water main break occurred today at the intersection of East College Avenue and East Trinity Place in Decatur.

Some residents have reported low water pressure or complete disruption of service as a result of the break.  DeKalb County is working to restore water service in the next 12 hours.

However – and here’s the kicker – that intersection will remain closed for AT LEAST the next 5 days as repairs are made.  According to the message, a detour route has been established, but man is that gonna create a mess for traffic in that area over the next week.

There is no “boil water” alert at this time.
