Election Day Open Thread
Decatur Metro | November 2, 2010
Here’s your token Election Day open thread. Go at it.
For example: How are the lines at your precinct? Did you vote for or against Decatur’s cryptic TAD question? Will my life really be better tomorrow as promised??
Disclaimer: People in the pic above are waiting to buy an iPhone, not waiting to vote.

Renfroe, 9am. No line but enough folks there for all booths to be in use. In and out in 5 minutes.
TAD? Yes! Series of incomprehensible state referendum items? Who the hell knows. Life better tomorrow? Will wait and see.
Only took me 5 minutes to get to a voting machine, but three attempts to successfully complete the Donkey Kong level before I could cast my ballot!
CONSPIRACY!
Reporting from the just outside Decatur folks (TM), no line at all. Plenty of parking spaces. I wonder if the negative campaigns have alienated the voters?
As usual, I’ve been retained by my colleagues in the Bilderberg group to toss all of your votes into a nearby river.
But have fun voting!
I vote Democratic in Georgia. I can throw my vote away without your help!
as of 8:30 am at the Decatur First Baptist, and they reported about 200 people had already cast their ballot…. next question..when is this state going to word amendments in plain English ? or I’ll take any other language than legalese ….I’m sure I would be able to understand it better …
I voted early, and I plan to vote often.
I used to live in Chicago, too!
All clear at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah.
I still get an odd sense of enjoyment filling in the county, date, address, etc. on the little form they give you, then handing it over to be checked, then taking it to the next person to be checked again … I suspect we might miss this little ritual a few years from now, when all they will do is scan your iris.
Are you sure the photo isn’t the line at Taqueria?
In and out from Decatur First Baptist this morning. The same woman has been working the elections for years–she always remember us.
Why does it feel like I vote twelve times a year these days? Is it just because I’m a grown-up now and actually care about things? I hope taking my kids along every time I vote impresses upon them the importance of voting–not just for prez but for everything that comes along.
No waiting at the North Decatur Presbyterian Church at 1:30pm.
I consider myself a well-informed voter. I knew about the state constitutional amendments, had made choices for judge, considered state candidates. But where did those county-level measures come from? It would be nice if you could get a sample ballot specific to your own address to review before voting. There are too many races where we’re voting with little information on the candidates.
you can also get sample ballots on ajc.com
Thanks. But when I’ve done that in the past, the sample ballot includes all sorts of races that aren’t in my district. And, to be honest, today I was just too busy to do all of that.
I still think there are too many elections at the same time.
Just a random FYI: This is DM’s 40,000th comment.
Does that mean I get a free t-shirt?
Just kidding. I’m trying to get RID of t-shirts right now.
Free coffee mug
Diane, sample ballots were available here http://www.sos.ga.gov/mvp/
You just type in your address and voila, you have your ballot. It came in handy for me.
That is very handy. Thanks Bob.
Surprisingly busy for a mid-term, but well run and efficient, at Fernbank Elementary.
For what it’s worth, this site is quite interesting on the state level:

Enter your Zip+4 to get specific candidates for your area, answer the twelve questions across the top, then see which candidates closely match your answers.
By clicking on a candidate, you can “drill down” to see more info on the candidate, campaign funds, past voting records, read specific speeches/legislation, and so on.
Just want to give a shout out to the poll workers at Avondale High School. Love these folks !! The same group for the past twenty plus years !! The Sticker Man said they have had a “surprisingly steady stream of voters all day” . Yea for voting !!
No lines at Oakhurst Baptist – easy in and out voting.
No lines but they were busy at 4:30! 800 through said the poll worker.
No lines at Decatur First Baptist, however all the parking spaces and street spaces were taken by the poll workers which can make you think there is a long line.
Voted about 2:30 at First Christian – no line, but about half the machines were in use. I had read a clear explanation of the amendments in the AJC about a week about, but had a senior moment at the machine and couldn’t remember what I decided for any of them. D’oh!
No lines at Holy Trinity. Workers reported a steady stream of customers and the Halloween treats were gone by noon:)
North of Decatur — Emory Presbyterian Church, some lines and delays due to the merge of 2 districts into 1 precinct this go-around. Also, one poll-worker taken out by ambulance (seems to be ok), emergency vehicles causing parking issue in a crowded lot. (6pm)
CA has prop 19, and all we get are TADs and whether the DOT can waste money more efficiently with multiple-year contracts.
Oh, and no line at the episcopal church across from Glenwood at 4PM.
well, for each race that had just one person, I made sure that person had an opponent and wrote myself in.
I always want to do that too. But I thought that even write-in candidates have to be registered to run by a certain date. I thought I remembered that from a School Board election.
So what are they gonna do, put it in your Permanent Record?
ooo suspension!
Republicans have won big. My prediction…if things get better, they’ll take credit.
If they don’t, they’re going to continue to blame Obama and the remaining Democrats for “getting in their way.”
Let’s hear what programs they’re going to cut. Bet it won’t be anything to do with the military (huge portion of the budget, I’d heard 48 percent, but that was challenged. Still, a big chunk).
They’re not going to touch Medicare.
They’re probably going to cut programs that help the poorest of the poor (those lazy people should just go to work!)
They’re right that whenever you start spending money on something, it’s hard to stop.
So, in that respect, I’d like to see some trimming.
I just don’t think we’re going broke helping feed and house and educate poor people. Just think that’s a responsibility of a civilized nation.
With all of the military/intelligence budget cuts since the 90s (taking into account the budgets have slightly went up post 9/11) I’m not sure what’s left to cut. The military post ww2 had been budgeted/designed to be able to fight a war on each side at the same time, and now we are struggling to get armor and better helmets for our guys on the ground in just 2 countries.
