Chef Ryan Stewart Leaves Farmstead 303

    Decatur Metro | September 15, 2010

John Kessler reports on his Food and More blog that Ryan Stewart has left his position as chef at Farmstead 303 after a little more than three months at the helm.

No word of Stewart’s next gig or a Farmstead replacement, according to Kessler.

I have to say, we were not terribly impressed with our meal at Farmstead 303 a few weeks ago. Not terrible, but not great either. So maybe this could be a good thing.

someone i know that’s a server there has been saying it has really been slow during her shifts (both daytime and nightime). So i think that might speak to a lot of people not making return visits after the initial hubub died down.

How does Feast appear to be doing? There was a 20% discount at Feast on the receipt for my most recent meal at Farmstead 303.

I’d have to agree with that comment that it wasn’t great. My wife and I went for lunch for the first time a few weeks ago. My wife ordered the chicken salad with “berry bread.” There were no berries in the bread so we asked if it was the right one. One of the servers came out with a commercially produced loaf of bread and showed us the label. I thought to myself, “I can go to the Candler Park Market and get fresh baked bread at the deli counter.”

As a former restaurant manager and waitress, I feel qualified to say that that waiter sucked.

Sorry to hear it. I hope things pick up, because I know the owner is truly invested in the community. But maybe the timing just wasn’t right, especially in this economy. If only one of her restaurants can survive, I hope it’s Feast…not hatin’, just sayin’.

Well, we really enjoyed our dinner there a month or so back.

I still haven’t been, which may say something about what I’ve heard, but I really want this to work. I have loved Feast, although not as much lately, and I have been hoping that Farmstead 303 could have some of the freshness and creativity that I have associated with Feast, but with local, regional food.

I think they need some special events (beer dinner?) and/or some coupons to get the rest of us to come in and give them a try. That is, if they want us to…

Been to Farmstead 303 twice now – not convinced we will go back. Our friends drove down to see us and for dinner last weekend with their 2 year old. They asked we eat somewhere “kid friendly and loud” (pretty much described Decatur, right?) – anyway, I chose Farmstead b/c when Hubbs and I went for a date night, kids were everywhere – which was fine. Hubbs really liked the train box they serve the kids meal in.

Anyway, we all ordered our dinner, and the 2 year old ordered chicken tenders. We all got our food (long wait, everyone ordered pork chops, some were huge, others looked like small chicken breasts). Anyway, they forgot to put in the toddlers order. She was served a while after we all had started eating. Seems like waitstaff at kid friendly places should know to bring the kids their food first. Luckily the toddler was in a good mood and we were able to give her some of our things to snack on while we waited for her chicken tenders.

Not sure we will be going back – we do love Feast, and I hope Farmstead 303 makes adjustments – then we will go back.

After hearing tons of good things when they opened, the fiance and I went there a few weeks ago. We sat in the bar area where it was much quieter, however there was only the bartender serving the tables in the area so everything took a little bit longer than normal but that didn’t bother us. The drinks were great, the food tasted great, but we both felt sick for about a day after, so we haven’t gone back.

      Been to Farmstead twice.
      Not impressed.
Despite being a big Feast fan.
      Hopefully better things are coming.

Well someone’s got to say something positive. The wife and I had a great meal there a little while back and definitely plan on returning.

The Green Goddess salad dressing is fab. I hope the chef hasn’t taken the recipe with him.

I had one of the best lunches ever there. No complaints. Great addition to the Decatur dining scene… Will be interested in watching Farmstead 303 evolve.

No complaints from me, either. I’ve been there twice with the fam and enjoyed the food and service. We’ll be back.

I must say that when we were at Farmstead the food was okay but the service was awful.I do love the concept but there are obviously some glitches.

New chef bringing great changes to both kitchen and dining room. If you haven’t been in awhile, you should stop by and check it out.
