Decatur High School Students Remember 9/11
Decatur Metro | September 11, 2010Decatur High teacher Chris Billingsley sent in this report late yesterday…
The Decatur High School Jr. ROTC cadets sponsored three September 11 remembrance ceremonies today at the gym/stadium plaza.
Each ceremony began with the honor guard lowering the flag. Next students placed the names of the people from Georgia who were killed on 9/11 on a “Wall of Heroes”. Jonathan Shields’ name was added to the wall because he was a former DHS student who was killed during the battle of Flajujah, Iraq in 2004. Then the names of all DHS alumni who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country were added to the wall. Finally students added to the wall the names of many alumni that are currently serving in the military. Col. Johnny Richards told the students that ceremonies like this help keep alive the memory of those who have served our country so well in the past.
Many thanks to Col. Johnny Richards and 1st Sargent Phyllis Primus for organizing such a meaningful ceremony for our students.
