In Dramatic Traffic Stop, Decatur Police Recover Stolen Vehicle

    Decatur Metro | September 8, 2010

Heather wrote in with this report just before 9am this morning…

There’s something going on on McDonough in front of DHS right now, 8:45 a.m. Five, maybe six police cars with lights, officers out of their cars. Looked like they had their guns drawn.

Anne also wrote in with a few more details…

…was walking by [the tracks at Mcdonough and Howard about 8:45 this morning] when the police jumped out of their cars with guns drawn…pretty scary stuff…We were waiting for the light to change and all of the sudden the police lights go on, the police surrounded the suspect’s car, and guns were drawn.

Deputy Chief Keith Lee gives us the lowdown…

While on patrol, a Decatur police officer located a stolen vehicle. A felony vehicle stop was conducted and all three occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody. No one was injured and the vehicle was recovered.

        Ryan,
It was a little white car. Is your white?

Eeek, right in front of the high school. Sure glad it was a good ten minutes after the kids should have been safely in their classroom seats.

Something was going on in the Little Kroger parking lot around 8:45 PM last night too, no guns, just police lights and stopped car. But blue police lights always look so scarey at night.

Off topic: Why are police lights blue nowadays? Remember when they were red? What should we teach our kids? Red lights mean fire or medical emergency, blue lights mean pull over immediately, keep your hands on the wheel, and say “Yes sir, no ma’am”?

The ones I remember have been blue since the 60’s.

          Maybe it’s a regional thing?

Such a week for our sleepy little hamlet! John Mayer! Shootings! Stolen Vehicles! Maybe there’s a new COD slogan in there somewhere…

“Small town feel, big city excitement.”

        Maybe not…
