Atlantans Love Their TVs
Decatur Metro | August 8, 2010Hey, look what we won!

This [TV Fanatics] award goes to the metro area with households that have an exceptional love affair with TVs. Households here have more TVs in more places in the house (yes, TVs in the bathroom and garage). They record the most shows and watch the more TV than other areas. And the winner is…the Atlanta metro area.
This prestigious clip-art award was the result of a 7,500 household online survey conducted Retrevo of its users. Authoritative to say the least!
So, how many TVs do you have in your house? (I’m hoping this question isn’t quite as taboo as asking about income to debt ratio or inquiring about your sex life.)

Three….does that make us below, on, or above average!
One–a little old Sanyo with a 13″ screen, and a digital converter box on top of it so that we could continue to get broadcast signals after the gov’t (in its infinite wisdom) decided to shut down all of the old analog signals.
At the risk of minorly inconveniencing a very small number of people – considering the portion of the limited frequency spectrum the gov’t auctioned off will now be used for newer technologies, and the fact that the rest of the industrialized world has or is switching to digital broadcasts, it does seem like a pretty wise decision.
We have only one! And it’s really old so it discourages excessive use. As usual, we are in the minority, just as we are on about any issue that comes up these days. But we do have cable, just the ordinary, basic kind.
One TV–kind of a fancy one at that. But a gaggle of other screened instruments, computers and phones, on which I could watch video if inclined.
2, 1 big, 1 small, havent had cable in 5-6 yrs
One & a half! Oldies on converter boxes. The little bedroom tv only likes to get a couple of channels since cutting out cable. Rarely on, so it really needs to be sent on to recycling heaven.
We have one nice TV in the main living area with satellite, and another ancient, 13 inch TV upstairs which gets no channels but is hooked to a DVD player for the kids’ use.
We have one in a room that is not in our central living area. We no longer have cable–we mostly watch use netflix for everything.
We have one big & fancy in the family room, one old 27-incher in the office, but nowhere else. (And I’ll be doggoned if I’ll ever allow one in the loo!!!)
1: brand new fancy thing in the family room. No cable or satellite…just DVDs and streaming netflix…
How do you stream Netflix? Did you buy a special device?
There is a device that Netflix sells on its website for about a hundred bucks. But many Bluray players include Netflix streaming and would be a better value if you have a high definition tv because you could pay an extra buck a month and your dvds from Netflix will be in Bluray high def when available.
You can also stream netflix via a Wii (special free disc required).
We have a laptop hooked up to the TV and just stream it directly from the internet. My husband is the expert so that’s all I know about it, but we get very good quality as long as the internet connection is good (had to get rid of Clear because the connection was so bad).
That seems vedddy complicated. Yikes!
We have a Blueray player that streams Netflix (you must have or purchase a membership though).
None. But a weekly subscription to the New Yorker and a healthy collection of books keeps us busy enough not to miss the idiot box.
I have a TV(s). I watch idiotic things like GLEE. I also watch smart things like NOVA. I also read the New Yorker. And the WSJ, the NY Times, Huffington Post and the Drudge report. I eat organic yogurt but I love fricking cheese doodles too.
The less I judge people the more I found I have in common with a variety of people.
Right on, Chad. I love our three high-def LCD TV’s scattered around the house, our DVR’s, the Wii (and Netflix via the Wii). Like you, I consume a variety of media, from the silly to the smart, and feel no shame whatsoever. Don’t let the arrogance of the disconnected bother you. Keep enjoying “Glee” and “Modern Family” without guilt or shame, as I will enjoy “Burn Notice” and “Psych.”
Well said, Chadly. But I have to disagree with you on the cheese doodles– I don’t like the frickin’ kind, just the crunchy ones…
One medium sized flat screen though probably now smallish.
One. And that’s one too many for me…but husband disagrees! No cable.
One good one. I am a habitual movie watcher and care about image quality; the computer/ipad/smartphone screens do not appeal to me at all.
2, but no cable. I’d really love to have it during college football season, tho.
Right there with you, Trish. I love the smorgasbord of college football on Saturday afternoons. It’s just not the same going online and checking for updates throughout the day.
Of course, it wasn’t that long ago when I was happy to listen to games on the radio or (gasp) even wait until the next day to read about it in the newspaper.
Three, beauties they are…
One, but no cable either, so it was interesting to watch the Soccer World Cup on the only broadcast channel that showed it… Univision! We do Netflix through the Wii.

That about nails it. For some people, not owning a TV is more about vanity than anything else.
Haaa- perfectly describes some posters here. From a few comments up:
“a weekly subscription to the New Yorker and a healthy collection of books keeps us busy enough not to miss the idiot box.”
haha
The Onion is really so spot on sometimes.
WC- Loved that last line up there. I hope you don’t mind if I borrow it.
I have a couple of nice HD sets and extended cable.
Life to too short. Why watch bad sit-coms on network TV when you can watch the great shows on HBO…
Modern Family is the funniest show since I Love Lucy. You should check it out.
Amen! Why shouldn’t I be able to watch “Family Guy”, “The Daily Show”, AND the History Channel in awesomely clear, surround-sound comfort?
We have one fancy one in the living room. (My fiance bought it when we moved to ATL… our previous TV was free; we found it abandoned in a college dorm after students had moved out.) No cable, but it’s hooked up to a computer for streaming Netflix, Hulu, and the occasional college football game on ESPN 360. We find that Clear gives us plenty good signal for streaming, although before we ran ethernet cable through the house we couldn’t make microwave popcorn and watch streaming video via wifi at the same time…
Ok. I admit I like Modern Family (as well as Community, Big Bang Theory and, of course, Lost….. )
3 – 2 flat screen hd tv (I think:-) one hooked up to cable – one hooked up to a Wii for Wii fit and streaming netflix. Ended up with the 2 nd flat screen because of some repair issues and an impatient hubby. The third one is a fairly large tube tv from the UK (probably 12 years old) that is just hooked up to an Xbox which may or not still be working and a multi-region DVD player. This one is in the basement. It gets almost as much use as the broken flat screen that our son drummed on at age 3 – I didn’t count that TV. It needs to get recycled I guess.
We have one. It’s an el cheapo. I’m not really into TV and living in SDekalb, a flat screen seems like an invitation for a break-in. We are moving to North DeKalb though and may consider a flat screen at some point to save space.
