    Mailbox Vandalism on Coventry Road

    Decatur Metro | August 8, 2010

    Kate writes in…

Vandals apparently played “mailbox baseball” on Coventry Road [Friday] night – damaged two mailboxes and stole two others. Mine is completely gone.

Pointless and stupid. Probably just a prank by high school kids, but infuriating nevertheless.

why would one assume that it was high school kids? not a good thing, but why run right into accusations without any purpose?

I’m with you! Lots of adults with anger management issues. Could just as well be another “boondoggle” incident!

        Why?

Because 99% of the time mailboxes are teed off on its highschool kids who
        a) Just got their license…
        b) Driving around….
        b1) bored…..
        c) someone says, “Hey I just saw a movie and they….”
        d) someone has a baseball bat.

Take your sanctimonious “openmindedness” and play with a baseball bat. Scratch, that…make it a wiffle ball bat.

Come on now, Left Wing. You have to remain open to the 1% committed by drunk rednecks. It’s not always the kids…

Winger, seriously, dude– what’s with the “sanctimonious openmindedness” snark? No need to get so testy!

I’m sorry. It’s one more thing to take care of plus you feel violated. Whether it’s high school kids, dropouts, or young adults, my guess is that’s a group of immature persons who are without adequate supervision or, if over 18–adequate purpose, insecure, and trying to impressing their fellow thugs.

Our mailbox along with at least four others were vandalized in the same way on Howard Ave last weekend between Commerce and Greenwood Circle. Some still have yet to be fixed. We should’ve called the police but didn’t.

still call the police, and let them know what happened with the dates/times.

Agree with joe. This sounds like a pattern. Who knows what street in next?

Cal the police for any incident, however minor it may seem to you. As in this case, it may help to establish a pattern. BTW, doing bad things to a mailbox is a federal offense.

What would happen if everyone put bricks in their mailboxes at night?

Or some kind of weird sounding piercing alarm that was sensitive to motion? The other thing that has happened over the last two years is smashing of car windows or windshields, sometimes without removing anything as though it wasn’t about burglary.

Man, it’s the same bullsh*t they tried to pull in my day. If it ain’t that piece of paper, there’s some other choice they’re gonna try and make for you. You gotta do what Randall Pink Floyd wants to do man. Let me tell you this, the older you do get the more rules they’re gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin’ man, L-I-V-I-N.

LOL! I love that movie! McConaughey was essentially playing himself, but still– hilarious…
