Natalie’s Fish House Closes
Decatur Metro | June 2, 2010John Kessler tweeted last night…
Nathalie’s Fish House in Decatur has closed. Never once tried that joint…
FMFats confirmed it for us with a walk-by, because you know that Kessler guy can’t be trusted.
Sorry to hear this. I know people who really liked it.
We ate there a lot in the early Aughts. I thought the food was delicious. However, the LAST time I was served a drink with a cockroach floating in it. Seriously. Brought it right to the table and put it down in front of me to drink.
Couldn’t go back. Nope. Like my drinks on ice. Not my cockroaches.
Well that stinks…I just bought a $25 certificate from HalfOffDepot.com yesterday to try it!
You can get a refund from HalfOffDepot if the business closes within 60 days of your purchase.
We used to eat there when it was the Key West Fish House and it was great… we tried Natalie’s twice – should have never gone back that second time – my son got food poisoning, was throwing up all night….
That’s a shame! Now who’s going to tell my Dad? He LOVED their shrimp!
Hmm. That cockroach story is something. I was there once, a while back. I don’t remember it being bad, but obviously I didn’t feel the need to rush right back. Either way, you hate to see another local business close.
I am not so sure I am with you on the “sad to see another local business fail” thing. Someone will come in, hopefully, and replace Nathalie’s with something like Farmburger replacing Voila.
I heard through friends that Natalie “sold out” and “got an offer she couldn’t refuse.” My impression was that someone was buying the business, but perhaps the “offer” was a position elsewhere? If it’s the former, we might be getting another place for burgers.
Not surprised. They were nice folks, and we tried them three different times to give them the benefit of the doubt– but all three times, got the most absent-minded service EVER (longest wait was 50 minutes for our food, shortest wait was 40 minutes, and that was AFTER we’d gotten our appetizers). If your service is gonna be lackadaisical, your food better be off the chain. Theirs just wasn’t. Now, we satisfy our fried seafood jones at the Crawfish Seafood Shack. Have to drive to Buford Highway, but it’s worth it (and your food always comes out super-fast, piping hot, and fresh)!
Too bad. We always really enjoyed it.
We never got a cock(roach)tail, but They did serve our daughter burned chicken strips once. I hope we get a good seafood place in its wake. Now I’m craving fried shrimp.
That place got really low health scores at least once if I recall… explains the cockroach
I love a good seafood shack but Natalies wasn’t it. Tried it twice and like others have said, service was poor and food mediocre at best. Hope someone brings good seafood to Decatur.
I can’t believe they stayed in business as long as they did. We used to enjoy it in the early days, but haven’t been there in a few years. Our family always goes to Six Feet Under in Grant Park for all our fried seafood needs. Extra added bonus: you can mosey across the street to the Oakland Cemetery to pay a visit to Bobby Jones’ gravesite.
and Martha’s
My father-in-law has a great seafood rule:
If you can’t see the ocean from your table, then do not order the seafood.
I’m sad to hear that. The food wasn’t great, but we always got such a warm welcome from Natalie that I always kept it on my list.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if the not to be refused offer was for the business, or if it was a job offer for Natalie. I wouldn’t have thought the Natalie’s Fish House position would be that much of a prime location to justify a not to be refused offer?
So sad. We always enjoyed it. fish tacos were really good and Clam Chowder was superb! Wish I had that recipe. Best wishes to Nathalie!
This is very sad news. We enjoyed eating there often. Natalie was a great community supporter and wonderfully nice person. The last few times I went she was not there and the food quality had suffered. Natalie, here’s wishing you a positive move forward and the best of everything.
I loved the place when it was Key West, but was very disappointed when I went back after it became Natalie’s!
One of the few restaurants in Decatur I never tried. From some of the reports here, that was probably a good thing!
Horrible service and it was very dirty in there.
When we drove by today there was a sign out front that stated, “Closed This Week For Repairs”. Does anyone know if this is just merely reopening under new ownership with the same theme? The closing seems odd given the fairly recent hiring of a new chef and buildout to the bar.
