Complete the DHS Car Wash Trilogy

Decatur Metro | July 24, 2009

dhs_carwash072509_poster

Better than Godfather 3, the third installment in the DHS Band Car Wash trilogy is Return of the King good.

Marcia pitches…

So the family vacation is over and let’s be honest, the Wagon Queen Truckster is looking a little grimy. Here’s an effortless way to clean that chrome and do some good: A DHS Student Car Wash.

The kids will be sudsing up the sedans (and SUVs and minivans) at Decatur High School, Howard St. at McDonough, on Saturday, July 25, from 10 am to 4 pm. Your donation helps send DHS students to marching band camp in July. The stakes are high — they have a new band director to impress, Mrs. Megan Willams. So, you can close out summer in a sparkling clean ride, and look forward to seeing snappy formations and excellent musicianship in just a few weeks when the DHS marching band takes the field at halftime.

Superintendent Moves To Support DeVry Annexation

Decatur Metro | July 24, 2009

UPDATE:  Meeting has been moved to Thursday.  See this post for more detail.

The CSD Board of Education will hold a special session at Westchester next Monday at 6:30p to consider their position on the city’s pending annexation of the large DeVry property that sits at the northeast corner of the city.

The only action item on the agenda was submitted by the Superintendent.

Move approval to support the city in the annexation of the DeVry property.

This special session and motion for approval are in direct response to a request from Mayor Floyd for the school system to weigh in on the potential school impact of a DeVry annexation.  While the school board’s approval carries no real weight, the recent uptick in communication between the two most powerful boards in the city demonstrates that they are actively attempting to bridge their long-time communication gap.

As for whether the school board will go along with the Superintendent’s approval, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Love for Fellini’s

Decatur Metro | July 24, 2009

Barrett writes in…

I wanted to give a shout out to Fellini’s for taking the time to host Children & Youth Services D.R.E.A.M. Campers. They showed the middle school kids how to make pizza and provided tips of the trade. Fellini’s provided us with beverages and pizzas during our interactive learning experience, which the kids truely enjoyed. I am glad I live in a community where a local buisness won’t hesitate to educate our youth.

Atlanta Ranks Near Bottom In Transit Savings

Decatur Metro | July 24, 2009

Transit Savings Report

Thanks to loads of free parking and comparibly inexpensive gas, Atlanta transit riders see some of the smallest transit-to-car savings nationwide, according to a study conducted by the APTA back in March.  That said, Atlanta transit riders still save an average of $8,000 a year over drivers.
