    Glenlake/Ridgeland Crimes Probably Not Related

    Decatur Metro | June 9, 2009

I asked Juanchella Francis at Decatur PD about the possibility that the Glenlake mugging and Ridgeland robbery are related.  Here’s her response.

Although there are a few similarities, i.e., number of suspects, same general age range, race, and gender, there are several aspects of the crimes which differ significantly. One of the incidents occurred on the street and the selection of the victim appeared random, while the other victim appeared to be specifically targeted and the crime occurred inside his residence. The level of violence was significantly greater in the second incident. Also the description of the suspects in the second incident differed in hairstyles and height. We have not completely ruled out the possibility that both crimes were committed by the same individuals, but do not believe it is likely.

For what it’s worth, I thought the hairstyle of the people I saw looked like that of the people in the sketches. (I saw two young men, matching the general description of the Glendale mugging, running away from the vicinity directly after the crime occurred on Ridgeland.) So until I hear more from the police, I’m still assuming these crimes may be connected and will be extra vigilant and cautious for the next few days.

Dave has quite the detailed summary about detectives visiting with the victim of the Ridgeland robbery yesterday.

In case anyone missed it, Fox5 had a well done, sane piece this evening about these two incidents, complete with interviews of the robbery victim and Deputy Chief Lee.
