I know there’s a longterm plan to rework that entire intersection, but in the meantime they need to chop down all of the bushes and plantings on that little triangular island. Cars have to pull out into a lane of oncoming traffic just to see around that crap. Who is the genius that landscaped that thing?
I live off of West Howard, further down from Adair, and it is tough to turn left OR right onto West Howard out of my street as cars are always going way way too fast – we are trying to organize a neighborhood meeting with the police in the new year to discuss our concerns and see if there is anything that can be done to try to make people stick to the speed limit on this stretch – however people really need to realize West Howard is a residential area and slow down!
I hope nobody was hurt in that crash.
DecaturResident – I live in your neighborhood and there has been a Decatur city policeperson out on West Howard a lot lately, during the morning and afternoon rush – I have seen them in the parking lot of the Friends church, shouting at speeders through a loudspeaker, or else on the Path near the high school, blowing a whistle at speeders, or in the parking lot of Core Body, sounding the siren at speeders. I walk my son to and from Oakhurst almost every day, and I feel like we are taking our lives in our hands on W. Howard, especially on the sidewalk between Greenwood Circle & the parking lot of Core Body. We are literally inches from traffic when we walk along there. I filled out a “Safe Routes to School” questionnaire at both Oakhurst & Glennwood Elems. earlier in the fall & in both I vented heavily about the traffic speeds on W. Howard. I am hopeful that I was not the only one, and the increased police presence is a result of those questionnaires.
