Bring it on. Downtown could use a little color. We’re on the edge of beige overload.

Saw it on the truck going through town today. Hip, Hip, Hooray

      Where is it?

I’m disappointed to see that block losing a dinner establishment. The bank closes at 5ish and Sherlocks closes at 8, leaving only the Ruby Tuesday and an ATM on that side of the block. I’m worried that will end up being a dark stretch of street, not conducive to the kind of walking traffic that should be trickling down from the Square. Hopefully Teds will continue to anchor that stretch of Ponce, but that doesn’t offer much variety to draw crowds.

Is Thumbs Up only a breakfast/lunch place? Crescent Moon was open late enough, I recall.

Thank you, Byron. That’s one of my biggest concerns about that block as well, since the garages on both sides of the street are sketchy. We also really need a reasonably-priced dinner place, and CM did that well. It’s a shame that Decatur is getting yet another inflexible chain (and welcoming it with open arms as if it’s the best we can do).

Whine, whine, whine. Thumbs Up is a great diner and we are lucky to be getting one. That space could have sat empty for months (like the Tossed space -which offered reasonably priced dinners, yet no one supported). Yes it is a small locally owned chain but to label them inflexible is overly dramatic. Don’t forget that the original Thumbs Up was one of the first restaurants that made Decatur a destination. If offering dinner turns out to be a smart business decision for them, then maybe they will start serving dinner. If not walk your lazy butt a block in either direction for some reasonably priced food. :)

Thumbs Up Diner = an “inflexible chain”? WTF? Sure, this is the 4th location in Atlanta, but to call that a “chain” is stretching it. And what is “inflexible” about them?

      I’m confused. Please explain.

Hey–some of us supported Tossed and miss our weekly salad dinner. . . .!
It was, however, overpriced. It did not offer anything more (in terms of quality, presentation, or ingredients) than Doc Green’s but was significantly more expensive (I ate at both a lot). I eat enough hash browns supporting all the breakfast places in Decatur that I need a salad place for dinner to balance it out! We really are a “breakfast destination” with at least a dozen places serving brunch. It’s great.

So do we know when it is opening? I cannot wait.

Tossed was reasonably priced? You’re kidding, right?

Walked by it last night – everything looked like it was in place to begin operating. I would think they could open any day now.

Rus is right. I remember going to the ORIGINAL Thumb’s Up when it was one of the few places to eat in Decatur. It was actually a restaurant divided – you could sit in the front or the back. Good to have them back in Decatur.

I remember back in the day when Thumbs Up was in the Cakes and Ale site and the CVS was still what appeared to be a 50’s circa car dealership. Lots has changed. Anxiously awaiting Thumbs Up to open.

I wonder if the new Decatur Thumbs Up will maintain the cash only policy mentioned on their website for the other locations….. I hate carrying cash if I can help it, and my credit cards seem to have survived the credit crisis (so far).

We went by Thumbs Up yesterday (Sat. 12/20) and they said they were opening Tuesday, 12/23. Yeah! I, too, am happy to see them open in Decatur and can remember when they were the originals here, with not much else in Decatur, especially in the way of dining. Didn’t the owners used to be partners with Crescent Moon?

It seems that at long last all the i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed (along with our fingers) and The new Thumbs Up on Ponce will be serving breakfast and lunch, on a daily basis, beginning this coming Tuesday morning. Grab some friends and come by to help us get off with a bizang!!
And to answer the money question, yes, it is a cash only place last I was told.

Great news! We drove to Avondale for that brief location and of course adored the original one here years ago. ATM on the premises – all worth it for great food and NOT a chain mentality in the least. If the owners need to keep away from credit card costs to offer awesome and creative food at reasonable prices, I can live with it. Welcome home! We missed you, Thumbs Up, and are glad you’re back.
