Dancing Goats Donates to Menu For Hope

Decatur Metro | December 18, 2007

My favorite neighborhood coffee joint, Dancing Goats, has made a very generous donation of coffee, an espresso maker, a coffee grinder and t-shirt to the Blissful Glutton for the 4th Annual Menu For Hope. Proceeds from the auctioned items will go towards creating a school lunch program in Lesotho, Africa.

The Blissful Glutton gives the lowdown on how to win these items…

The way it works is that people put up food-related auction items and you donate a certain amount of money. Each $10 buys you a ‘raffle ticket’ to one of the items. So you can get something pretty pricey for only $10. These aren’t shoddy prizes, people. We are talking a private lunch with Harold McGee, Heston Blumenthal cooking you a historic British menu for 2 at the Hinds Head, “a personal tour of elBulli kitchen laboratory at the new Alícia Institute with Ferran Adrià himself.”

Pangaea on Huff Road Closes – Decatur "On Hold"

Decatur Metro | December 18, 2007

On 12/12, the Blissful Glutten quickly noted that “Pangaea (sniff) and Pie Bar have closed. Dish will close at the end of the month.”

Which lead someone to ask in the comments “Does this mean no Pangaea in Decatur? Or are they closing the Huff Road location only? ”

To which the Blissful Glutten responded “From what I hear, the new location is on hold. I will get the details and post within the comments unless a reader knows?”

Sounds like a “no go” to me.

Too bad. I was really psyched, not only about the food, but its unique location. The East Ponce property is currently under extensive renovation. Guess it might just stay that way for a while.

Why did Pangaea close in the first place? Wasn’t it rather trendy?

Venting About Candler at College

Decatur Metro | December 18, 2007

The top DeKalb vent on AJC.com reads…

“Can we please get a left turn signal at Candler St. and College Ave. in Decatur? Ridiculous!”

Well, if this venter had flipped through the Community Transportation Plan, they would already know that the city has noted and addressed this issue on page 6.13.

It reads “Work with Agnus Scott to obtain permission to widen on the west side of South Candler Drive so that one additional northbound through lane can be created on approach and through the intersection. The second through lane would continue across the railroad tracks at the end of Church Street.”

While this blurb doesn’t mention a turn lane, the map below (on page 6.15) clearly shows one.

When will this be done? The Transportation Plan projects a timeframe of 2010-2015 for this particular intersection. See the time table for all the proposed transportation recommendations on page 11.13. And in case you’re interested, the whole College/S. Candler intersection project is estimated to cost $1.6 million.
