Confirmation: Pangaea Decatur a No Go, But There's Good News…

    Decatur Metro | January 3, 2008

    Ask and you shall receive…

I wrote a quick email to Pangaea regarding the questionable development at 2774 East Ponce and got this response from the restaurant.

We did sign a lease for a second Pangaea, but things have not worked out – Most likely we will be involved in another restaurant in that same space.

So the bad news is no Pangaea. The good news is that renovations will continue at the proposed location and another restaurant will probably open in its place.  The emailer said she would probably have details of the new restaurant in the next month or so.  Stay tuned to Decatur Metro and I’ll report as soon as I hear something!

Pangaea Cancels Plans to Come to Decatur

    Decatur Metro | December 19, 2007

Thanks to Dan, who commented in response to my previous posting about Pangaea closing its flagship location on Huff Rd, we now have second-hand confirmation that Pangaea is not coming to Decatur.

    Dan writes…

I work over by the Pangea on Huff and in talking to them, they are not going to open in Decatur (at least that is what the cashier told me) and they are closing just because the location was not getting enough traffic. Which is understandable since it is kind of off the beaten path.

I am very sad about it since it was a standard part of my lunch rotation.

Many thanks for doing the footwork and updating us on this story Dan!

But here’s my question. Why would a restaurant that claims to be struggling, up and decide to open a second location just months before it closes its doors? Wishful thinking?

    Kind of counter-intuitive to me.

Pangaea on Huff Road Closes – Decatur "On Hold"

    Decatur Metro | December 18, 2007

On 12/12, the Blissful Glutten quickly noted that “Pangaea (sniff) and Pie Bar have closed. Dish will close at the end of the month.”

Which lead someone to ask in the comments “Does this mean no Pangaea in Decatur? Or are they closing the Huff Road location only? ”

To which the Blissful Glutten responded “From what I hear, the new location is on hold. I will get the details and post within the comments unless a reader knows?”

Sounds like a “no go” to me.

Too bad. I was really psyched, not only about the food, but its unique location. The East Ponce property is currently under extensive renovation. Guess it might just stay that way for a while.

Why did Pangaea close in the first place? Wasn’t it rather trendy?
