Paste for $1 Deal Ends Tonight

Decatur Metro | November 15, 2007

The source has been compromised! Abort! Abort!

David reports in the comments section that someone from Paste says this deal has been extended for a couple weeks.

David over at InDecatur has an inside source that tells him that the Paste “Pay What You Want” deal ($1 minimum) ends tonight.

So head on over there if you want it. I need to do the same.

Note to self: Get more inside sources.

Atlanta Home Builder Donates $100k to Children's Home

Decatur Metro | November 15, 2007

This is great news!

Jon Been, the Founder and CEO of Atreus Homes & Communities, has made a $100,000 donation to the United Methodist Children’s Home (UMCH) in Decatur, Georgia, to meet the immediate needs of the children who were impacted by a recent fire destroying their living quarters.

“We know that the UMCH had insurance, but there are things these young people need now to get their lives back together–including clothes and personal belongings,” Been said.  “We don’t want them to have to wait.  This donation is intended to get them trhough the holidays and into the New Year and I have pledged that we will made up any difference between any insurance settlement, and what is eventually needed to rebuild the dorm.”

I’m going to have to rethink my recent bad-mouthing of developers…

Praying to Zeus for Rain

Decatur Metro | November 15, 2007

The recent controversy surrounding Sonny Perdue’s “pray for rain” vigil on the Capitol steps Tuesday has been played out for centuries. Nay! Millennia! The scene below from the Greek comedy, The Clouds, proves it.

From The Clouds by Aristophanes

STREPSIADES

But by the Earth! is our father, Zeus, the Olympian, not a god?

SOCRATES

Zeus! what Zeus! Are you mad? There is no Zeus.

STREPSIADES

What are you saying now? Who causes the rain to fall? Answer me that Read the rest of this entry »

Decatur Now Has an Animal Emergency Clinic

Decatur Metro | November 15, 2007

Lots of good info on this OakhurstGA message board…

Here’s one that will make my Golden Retriever feel more secure if he ever gets stung by a bee again and his head inflates to the size of a basketball. (Man that was a long night out in Tucker…)

At last, an intown animal emergency clinic serving our furry friends on Atlanta’s east side! Opened on Friday, November 2, 2007, Animal Emergency Clinic of Decatur is conveniently located at 308 E. Howard
Avenue (across from The Depeaux restaurant) in downtown Decatur where it will initially share space with The Village Vets of Decatur. The Village Vets of Decatur and Animal Emergency Clinic of Decatur’s new
building is currently under construction at 217 N. McDonough St. (across from Decatur High School) and will be completed in Summer 2008.

Animal Emergency Clinic of Decatur provides emergency animal care after-hours and during holidays. Currently, it is open on weekends and holidays and will soon be open Monday – Friday from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am and from Saturday at 3:00 pm to Monday at 7:00 am. For more details and hours of operation, please call us at 404-371-9774 or visit our website at: www.decaturanimalER.com
