Candler Water Plant Don't Work Good

    Decatur Metro | August 14, 2008

Yeah so remember the time when DeKalb residents were told that we needed to boil all of our water and lots of people didn’t shower or brush their teeth for two straight days?  Remember how Wheatley said he used astronaut shampoo to wash his wavy, red locks?  That was awesome…

So in regards to that whole fiasco, I’ve got some good and bad news…

The good news is that something like that shouldn’t happen again anytime soon for the same reason.

The bad news is that the county is paying upwards of $180,000 to RENT a diesel backup system, on top of the $165 mil we’ve already shelled out, to cover for the current fickle, sometimes defunct “high-tech” facility the next time it decides to power-off during a light shower.  Ah diesel…they sure don’t make ‘em like they used to, do they?

Oh also…if you’re like me, and are curious to know why the system failed, it had something to do with a “defect in the computer logic control”.  Now are we clear?  Good.  Will they be fixing this defect?  Who knows!

Murky Response From DeKalb Regarding Water Plant Failure

    Decatur Metro | July 26, 2008
    Power-Deprived Plant

    Power-Deprived Plant

In a morning article detailing the trials and tribulations of DeKalb residents under the boil water advisory (some of which sounded like they came from your comments on this site), the AJC asked DeKalb County twice why backup power failed at the recently-expanded-for-a-cool-$150-mill Scott Candler Water Plant.

County spokesperson Kristie Swink, who would only respond in writing to the AJC (perhaps some oral surgery gone horribly wrong prevented her from speaking?), kept her replies to the technicalities of why the system went off-line this time around. In regards to why the back-up system didn’t work or why the county didn’t address this issue the first time this happened a couple months ago, she was less helpful.

I guess the county doesn’t think we have a right to know much about the water we’re drinking.

It’s understandable. It’s not like I need water to live or anything.
