Diesel generators are quite common as backup power sources. I'm looking out the window at two of them, neatly disguised by oddly shaped sound-insulated steel sheds, each the size of a short shipping container.

But these are permanent, designed to back up a datacenter with thousands of servers and disk arrays.

I can't imagine that the ongoing cost of renting a temporary generator for a few months would cost less than hiring a contractor to work with vendors to fix the busted code. And I'm pretty sure the cost of 24 hours of diesel fuel is dwarfed by the rental/maintenance cost of just having the thing on site.

Was there an expected completion date for the software fix? If this were a commercial enterprise, you'd better believe there would be

Don't worry about the water- a few years back DeKalb county actually paid to bottle its water- to show how high a quality it is (was)....maybe there are still some cases of that around that we could drink.....gee, do you think that was a waste of resources as well...... Just think, if Vernon had been left in the running for senate, we could have brought his policies nationwide. Ooooooooh- it makes me shudder at the thought.

Can they run those things on my NASA shampoo? I've got like, buckets of the stuff.

Seriously, and please help me out here, as I know next to nothing about diesel generators. Say the system shuts down again: How many gallons of diesel does it take to operate the generator until engineers can get the system functioning? (Last time it was two days, correct?) What's the average price of a gallon of diesel right now? $4.80? I imagine this being a very large generator, and not the kind you find rumbling at the county fair.
