On 7/22/2014 at approximately 10:00 am, Decatur Police responded to the 700 block of South Columbia Drive to assist DeKalb County Police in searching for a vehicle and two suspects involved in an armed robbery in DeKalb County. The suspects and vehicle were located in the area of Oldfield Road and both suspects fled on foot.

A Decatur officer captured one suspect in the woods between the 700 block of South Columbia Drive and Oldfield Road and also recovered a handgun. Officers and deputies with the DeKalb Police Department, DeKalb Sheriff’s Office and Decatur Police Department pursued and captured the second suspect in the 2600 block of Midway Road.

A couple of years back, someone here made a comment that in 5 years DeKalb would look a lot like Fulton in terms of it’s cities.  That seems to have been a pretty good prediction as new cities have appeared in North DeKalb and multiple cityhood efforts have popped up around the county in the last few years.

Now South DeKalb is showing interest, though the effort is in the early stages.  From WABE…

The proposed City of South DeKalb’s organizers want a bill in next year’s legislative session. However, Kathryn Rice, who is leading the effort, says plans are in their first stages. The group does not have a sponsor for the bill or even the money for a feasibility study.

Rice says her group is still deciding on the exact boundaries. “At a minimum we’re looking at everything south of 285 excluding the cities,” said Rice. “But we would also like to include unincorporated Clarkston, and that’s up to them.”
