“Barely Lethal” Filming at Old Decatur Courthouse Next Week

    Decatur Metro | December 3, 2013

Decatur’s Katie Abel tells us that Barely Lethal, starring Hailee Steinfeld (of True Grit fame), Samuel L. Jackson and Jessica Alba, will be filming at the Old Decatur Courthouse  next Tuesday, December 10th.

IMDB describes “Barely Lethal” thusly “A 16-year-old international assassin yearning for a “normal” adolescence fakes her own death and enrolls as a senior in a suburban high school. She quickly learns that being popular can be more painful than getting water-boarded.”

Abel tells DM that she will be providing more details on traffic and parking plans during the filming on The Decatur Minute next Monday.  Says Abel, “The road won’t be closed but there will be a lot of extra activity downtown that day.”

Anna Kendrick Filming “What to Expect” in Decatur Starting Tomorrow

    Decatur Metro | September 28, 2011

Brad sent in this pic from Church Street this morning.  The city’s Katie Abel confirms that this no parking area is due to the filming of “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”, which we reported on over the weekend.  I also noticed similar signs along McDonough this morning.  She adds…

…mostly on Maple Street including some overnight stuff. My understanding is that they are filming scenes with Anna Kendrick, no Cameron Diaz or J.Lo.

If you can’t quite place Anna Kendrick, here’s a link for ya!

Publix Marathon Racing Through Decatur This Sunday

    Decatur Metro | March 17, 2011

The City of Decatur’s Katie Abel writes on The Decatur Minute…

The Publix Georgia Marathon is coming through the City of Decatur this Sunday morning, March 20th and we would love to have you participate! Decatur has a great history of participating in the Neighborhood Challenge and since it has started, we have won over $15,000 in prize money to go towards fitness initiatives in Decatur.

Decaturites are needed to come to the official cheering station on Ponce de Leon adjacent to the Old Courthouse Square on Sunday morning at 7:30 am to help cheer the runners on. Don your GREEN clothes and come out with a noise maker, signage, and/or a musical instrument. Let’s make noise so the runners remember our city. Runners are going to vote for their favorite Hydration Stations and their favorite Cheering Section so we want them to remember us! Prize money will go towards the city’s new walking program, “Walk There, Decatur!”

    Decorate Decatur – Halloween Edition!

    Decatur Metro | October 7, 2010

    From October’s Decatur Focus…

Decatur will hold its first official Halloween Decorating Contest this year. Residents and businesses are invited to decorate homes and/or businesses and submit a photo to specialevents@decaturga.com by noon on Thursday, Oct. 28. Please include your name and address.

Judges will make their decision Thursday evening and the winners will be posted on the City of Decatur website, the Downtown Decatur Facebook page, and on www.thedecaturminute.com blog. Winners will receive a special yard sign on Friday, Oct. 29, to display throughout the weekend.

Many thanks to Jake Tockerman, who submitted a request for this special holiday decorating contest. Thanks also to Rik Abt and Sally Hamilton, 252 Kings Highway, who submitted this photo of their decorated home last year. Let the Halloween decorating begin!

If you have questions or need more information email katie.abel@decaturga.com or call 678-553-6547.

At Monday’s Decatur City Commission meeting, Ms. Abel elaborated a bit further on this event.  Apparently, young Mr. Tockerman was spurred to the suggestion of a Halloween version of “Decorate Decatur” because his family didn’t celebrate Christmas and he wanted a chance to compete in a Decatur house decorating competition.  In reward for his creative genius, Tockerman was offered an honorable seat on the Supreme Court of House Decor, but he turned it down because he wanted to compete.

Ms. Abel also mentioned that the winner of the contest this year will receive something called the “Commissioner’s Cauldron”.

Note: the house in the picture above is not located anywhere near Decatur.
