CSD Committee Recommends Three K-3 Rezoning Options

    Decatur Metro | November 8, 2013

From CSD this morning.  I’ve added links to the map options in the email below.

    Dear Parents, Neighbors and Staff,

On behalf of the K-3 Attendance Zones Committee and the City Schools of Decatur, we would like to thank you for all of the input and feedback provided to the committee as we work through the process of developing draft map options for school attendance zones for the 2014-2015 school year. In preparation for the re-opening of Westchester, the K-3 Attendance Zones Committee selected three draft map options to present to the Board of Education for consideration for the upcoming school board meeting on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. No decision will be made by the Board of Education on November 12, 2013. The Superintendent has recommended that the Board tables their decision until the next regularly scheduled Board meeting on December 10, to give time for contemplation as well as another Public Community Meeting.

The Committee’s recommended maps, in order, are as follows:

    #1    Draft Map 7-updated

    #2    Draft Map 5

    #3    Draft Map 6

We have launched a survey so that you can give feedback on your preference of the three draft maps the committee recommends. Please go to the K-3 Zoning webpage to view the maps and select your choice http://www.csdecatur.net/zoning. The survey results will be shared with the Board on December 10.

Please continue to provide your feedback and comments through .  We continue to read each email sent to the contact_us comment box.

We hope that you will join us for our second Public Community Meeting that will be held in the next several weeks. You will have an opportunity to provide public comment and feedback during this meeting. We will publicize this event so please be looking out for this information. All comments and feedback are shared with the Board of Education. Thank you again for your continued input in this process.

    Sincerely,

Dr. Kiawana Kennedy, Chief Operating Officer

    Mary Mack, Elementary Curriculum Director

    Tom Sayre, Sizemore Group

    K-3 Attendance Zones Committee

Here Comes Westchester! Time to Rezone the Elementary Schools Again

    Decatur Metro | October 22, 2013

    westchester zoning

    It’s time to discuss redistricting!…again.

Just a couple of years since the last rezoning – which incorporated Glennwood back into the K-3 brick and mortar contingent – the awesome foursome (Oakhurst, Clairemont, Winnona Park and Glennwood), now need to make physical space inside the city limits for their mid-century styled old friend, Westchester Elementary, again.

The CSD zoning committee met on October 14th to develop rezoning options.  One of the initial rezoning options (seen above) was shown in a presentation for that meeting, which can be found on CSD’s zoning website.

CSD has a Community Meeting scheduled for Monday October 28th at 6p to go over all the potential rezoning options.  The meeting will aptly take place in the Board of Ed room at Westchester.

We’ll update you all once all the rezoning options are posted.

The final rezoning recommendation will be presented to the School Board on November 12th and then is scheduled for a final vote on December 10th.

Planning Commission Takes Up Rezoning of West College Parcel This Evening

    Decatur Metro | November 13, 2012

Many of you expressed an interest in being reminded when this agenda item, which was tabled at the last Planning Commission meeting, was brought up again.  So here you go.  Tonight at 7:00pm at Decatur City Hall, the Planning Commission will take up the proposed rezoning of 712 West College Avenue from residential to commercial.  The developer’s stated plan is to build a retail grocery store, run by the current owners of the the Candler Park Market.

Included in the meeting materials for tonight’s meeting is a new staff report by City Planning Director Amanda Thompson, which goes into great detail about the rezoning request, the C-1 and R-60 allowable uses, the standards which must be considered when rezoning is requested, a comparison of standards between R-60 and C-1, parking, and so on.

So brush up on your zoning-speak and then head over to City Hall and give your nay or yay opinion!
