AJC: Agnes Scott Cuts 16 Postions To Help Shore Up Budget

    Decatur Metro | May 19, 2011

    From the AJC this morning…

Agnes Scott College eliminated 16 support staff positions as part of a plan to cut about $3 million from its $43 million budget.

The women’s college also offered early retirement packages to anyone over 62 who has worked at the Decatur institution for at least 10 years. Nine faculty members and 15 staff members accepted and will retire at the end of June, spokeswoman Megan Terraso said Wednesday.

City of Decatur Eliminated 5 Vacant Positions in Past Year

    Decatur Metro | May 26, 2010

You can now register your official approval/disapproval of Decatur’s 2010-2011 budget over on Open City Hall.

Among the bullet points in the Open City Hall overview is the “elimination of 5 vacant full-time positions”.  But you have to dig into the City Manager’s 20 page, single-spaced budget message for detail.

During the past year, two full‐time positions were eliminated in the Active Living Division. One position in senior services has been replaced with part‐time staff and at the tennis center, a full‐time assistant program supervisor position was eliminated and duties are also being covered as necessary with part‐time staff. These two changes have allowed us to meet essential service needs with greater flexibility at a reduced cost.

In the Children and Youth Services Division, two full‐time positions have been eliminated. Our long‐term plan is to concentrate on upgrading the existing Site Director positions through training and skill development to continue to improve an already superior program.

In the Police Department one of two administrative assistants is retiring as of July 1st. Existing duties will be covered by the other administrative assistant and by sharing some responsibilities with existing part‐time employees. One full‐time position will be eliminated.

    Career fair today

    Andisheh Nouraee | April 27, 2010

There’s a career fair today from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Holiday Inn. Dress nice, bring a resume, and a 30 second pitch about why someone should hire you. WABE has more details.

Ex. “Hire me and I’ll blog all snarky-like for you.”

Now that I think of it, that pitch hasn’t been working out so well.

Greene's Fine Foods To Open in Old Post Office Building

    Decatur Metro | August 28, 2008

Finally!  A store sign in front of the old post office building indicates that it will be “Greene’s Fine Foods“.

The only other online info I can find on it is in the form of job postings like this one…

Looking for energetic and fun full and part time employees to work in a brand new retail Candy, Nut, and Gift store in Downtown Decatur. Please forward resume or send an email to tommy@greenefinefoods.com.

I hope Tommy meant to write “greenefinefood”, because he’s missing the ‘s’ and the store’s website includes it.  If so, not my job apps are going to get thru.

Candy and gifts!  All the rumors seem to be true…though we had heard nothing about ‘fun’ previously. ;-)

Welcome to the ‘hood of neighbors, Greene’s!
