In the town of Sadovye, a residence spanning 130 square meters has been thoughtfully designed by the St. Petersburg-based interior design company, Antwe, for a mother and her daughter. The designers initiated the project with a compelling concept: introducing “an object within a space.” At the heart of this clean and open space, they installed an eye-catching, high-gloss oval structure in a rich, deep red Merbau veneer. This feature is intentionally shorter than the ceiling, giving it the appearance of a freestanding piece rather than a typical divider. This oval form ingeniously houses the main wardrobe, storage for outerwear, various technical systems, and essential household apparatus.
The structure cleverly delineates the apartment into distinct functional areas, separating the entryway from the combined kitchen and living area, while also fostering a seamless circular movement around its smooth, curved edge. Its reflective surface, situated opposite the apartment’s windows, captures and enhances the natural light and the expansive views of the cityscape. As the day ends, the interior basks in a serene pink hue that sweeps gently across the space, highlighting textures from the microcement floors to the bespoke satin stainless steel features.
From the side of the kitchen and living area, the oval becomes an integral part of the kitchen setup. Hidden behind folding panels are the essential components of a contemporary kitchen, allowing the structure to maintain a neat and defined presence when not in use. A central island made of Patagonia quartzite, along with Roquebrune chairs designed by Eileen Gray, grounds the area. This thoughtful zoning continues into the children’s bedroom, where a centrally placed wardrobe with a portal separates the sleeping quarters from an adaptable play area, which is designed to transform into a study space as needs change. This division aids in helping the child transition from playtime to rest.

The master bathroom follows a similar theme of spatial organization. It can be accessed from both the hallway and the bedroom and is segmented into two areas: a sink section and a secluded bathing area featuring a standalone tub. These zones are connected by a walk-through shower. In the bathing area, subdued, warm lighting fosters a tranquil and enveloping ambiance, while curved doorways offer a dramatic visual transition within the space.
Artwork plays a pivotal role in defining the aesthetic of the apartment, with modern pieces from up-and-coming artists placed strategically to catch the eye along the main visual paths of the home. In the kitchen, a piece of epoxy resin art by Alisa Spots, produced in collaboration with Antwe and inspired by the studio’s designs, is positioned perfectly at the end of a long, direct perspective line created by the alignment of cabinetry, the island, and the rhythmically placed windows. Its lustrous surface mirrors the surrounding area, intensifying the depth of view. In the bedroom, a painting by Varvara Cheltsova adds a graphic touch and brings a balanced tone to the space’s otherwise subdued scheme.
Further echoing the central design element, hints of red reappear as meticulously adjusted accents throughout the apartment. In the master bedroom, a striking red shoe cabinet stands out against the monochromatic finishes and the sleek stainless steel of the wardrobe system, while a pink travertine divider subtly recalls the overall color scheme between the sleeping and storage areas. In the guest bathroom, a single bold statement is made with a translucent red epoxy resin sink. Illuminated from above by a directional light integrated into the mirror, it casts a vibrant crimson light onto the floor, further playing with the concept of “an object within a space” on a smaller scale.
