The Former Iron Man of MCU Makes a Virtual Appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America

On a recent Tuesday, ABC’s Good Morning America featured a virtual drop-in from the beloved former Iron Man of the MCU to pass the torch to the new face of a Marvel character.

While Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos were promoting the upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart on the morning show, co-anchor Robin Roberts took a moment to introduce a video message from none other than Robert Downey Jr. himself.

In a prerecorded segment, the esteemed MCU actor expressed his delight to Thorne, saying, “Ms. Thorne, I couldn’t be more thrilled to see you bring Riri Williams to life,” referencing her initial portrayal in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Downey Jr. humorously commented on Ramos’ character in Ironheart, Parker Robbins, also known as The Hood, joking about him overtaking Doctor Doom, a role Downey Jr. is set to play in future MCU films. He concluded his message with a heartwarming gesture, forming a heart with his fingers and proclaiming, “In short, Iron Man loves Ironheart.”

Thorne reciprocated the sentiment on-air, forming a heart with her hands and responding, “Ironheart loves Iron Man, too.”

Thorne shared with Roberts that Downey Jr.’s support did not begin with his video message. “Shortly after we wrapped up filming [Season 1] in Chicago, I received my first call from him,” she revealed. “He’s been incredibly supportive throughout. It really means a lot.”

Ironheart Premieres on Disney+

The much-anticipated series Ironheart is set to debut on Disney+ on Tuesday, June 24 at 9/8c, starting with its first three episodes. The series picks up after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and follows Thorne’s character, Riri, as she returns to her Chicago roots aiming to leave her mark on the world through her unique approach to constructing iron suits.

Riri’s journey intersects with the enigmatic yet charismatic Parker Robbins, aka “The Hood,” played by Anthony Ramos. The series synopsis hints at a compelling mix of technology and magic as Riri pursues her ambitious dreams.

The cast also includes Lyric Ross as Riri’s best friend Natalie Washington, Alden Ehrenreich playing a friend named Joe McGillicuddy, Manny Montana as Cousin John, Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington, Anji White portraying Riri’s mother Ronnie, and Regan Aliyah, reportedly playing Zelma Stanton.
