IT: Welcome to Derry Sets HBO Premiere Date — Plus, Watch Very Creepy Trailer

The much-anticipated arrival of the IT prequel series on HBO has been scheduled. Perfectly timed to enhance the spooky season of Halloween, IT: Welcome to Derry will premiere on the network, as well as on the streaming service HBO Max, on Sunday, October 26, as announced by HBO this past Tuesday.

The first season of this horror-drama series will consist of nine episodes. Be sure to watch the new and chilling trailer, available below.

Derived from Stephen King’s renowned novel IT, first released in 1986, Welcome to Derry aims to broaden the universe created by director Andy Muschietti with his movies IT and IT Chapter Two, which came out in 2017 and 2019, respectively. While specific details about the series’ storyline remain under wraps (aside from what can be gleaned from the trailer), it is confirmed that Bill Skarsgård will return to his role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, a character he portrayed in both Muschietti-directed films. Muschietti is also involved as a writer and executive producer for the series and has directed four of its forthcoming episodes.

Joining the cast of IT: Welcome to Derry are Taylour Paige, known from Hit the Floor, Jovan Adepo from 3 Body Problem, Chris Chalk of Gotham fame, James Remar, who starred in Dexter: Resurrection, Stephen Rider from Marvel’s Daredevil, Madeleine Stowe of Revenge, and Rudy Mancuso from Amigos.

Reflecting on their connection to the original book, Andy Muschietti and his sister Barbara Muschietti, who also serves as an executive producer, shared that as teenagers they would take turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s IT until their paperback copy was worn out. They expressed their excitement about the series, noting, “IT is an epic tale that encompasses much more than we could cover in our films. We are eager to delve into the full depth of Stephen’s novel, with all its heart, humor, humanity, and horror.”
