After months of resistance, mobilization, and attempts at reinvention, the iconic Oberkampf concert bar has announced its permanent closure on April 26.

The decision has been made. While the team had already warned of a potential closure in February 2025, it is now official: L’Inter, the renowned concert bar in the Oberkampf district of Paris, will cease operations on April 26. This marks a final blow to a venue that had been struggling since January 2024 to stay afloat, hampered by structural flaws and the inability to complete necessary renovations.
In a statement, the team expressed their sadness: “With no medium-term prospects, continuing becomes impossible—financially, physically, and mentally. So here it is: on April 26, L’Inter will close its doors again, and the team—or what’s left of it—will step down.”
A Reopening That Wasn’t Enough
Partially reopened in February in an attempt to reinvent the space, the venue could not regain its balance. Despite the efforts, the energy expended, and a reconfigured stage on the ground floor, the conditions were no longer right to continue the journey.
The team—Gabi, Mathis, Wahab, Seb, Tom P, Rémi, Tom D, and Agathe—reflect on the past years: “Since 2021, we’ve tried to offer a programming that was both open and bold, with a desire to host artists and bands from down the street to across the globe—and regardless of whether they were professionals or amateurs.”
They continue emotionally: “One might say ‘no regrets,’ but there will always be some, a lot… passionately. It’s frustrating, infuriating to have to stop everything over a ‘silly’ issue of a poorly constructed floor (…) We will have these hundreds of memories left—and perhaps that’s what matters most.”
One Last Bash at the End of the Month
A message filled with gratitude and affection concludes the statement, addressed to those who have brought the venue to life: artists, media, collectives, volunteers, and the audience. On April 26, a final evening will conclude this chapter. And as they aptly put it, one last chance to “celebrate (and mourn) L’Inter” and our turn to thank them for all these moments.
