A family of four from abroad, known for their passion in collecting, engaged Bergman Design House to create their secondary residence in London. Their request was clear and focused: they sought a sophisticated, personal, and timeless space. The concept was for the home to serve as a living museum, with each item and material thoughtfully accumulated over time.
This directive influenced all aspects of the apartment’s design. The design duo, Marie Soliman and Albin Berglund, who founded the London-based studio, crafted the 4000 sqft heritage-listed home prioritizing the concept of a collection over mere decoration. Unlike decorative items which simply fill spaces, the curated objects here are meant to gain significance and value as the years pass.
The choice of materials was equally intentional. Consider the use of travertine, a material that beautifies with age. Its porous nature allows it to capture light differently as it wears, enhancing its natural variations through frequent use. This characteristic of travertine exemplifies the materials selected for the apartment, all of which appreciate over time rather than deteriorate.

Marcin Rusak’s bar cabinet, for instance, encapsulates botanical elements and flowers in resin, capturing moments in time within its structure. A wall installation from the Swiss studio Beyond introduces a three-dimensional geometric design, engaging viewers over time, beyond initial visual appeal. Bespoke cabinetry by James Wellesley and custom stonework by Marco Pacitti link the home to London’s network of specialized artisans.
The walls are adorned with custom plasters and natural marquetry, chosen for their sensory beauty and aging potential, as described by Soliman. Additionally, hand-painted wall coverings by Fromental add a unique, human touch, incorporating inherent variations right from the beginning, enhancing the depth and texture of the space.
