Just saw the sign for Kale Me Crazy opening in the old Terra Mater space. Anyone know much about it?
Expensive juice bar in Inman Park. Seems to be popular over there.
Bob Scott could really use your vote in the “Cox Conserves Heroes” contest; he’s a finalist who has chosen the South Fork Conservancy to receive $10,000 should he win. Voting should take you oh…about 5-10 seconds.

Funky Delicious Yard Sale
Saturday, October 25, beginning at 8am
516 West College Avenue, Decatur
Lots of funky goodness from the latter half of the 20th century, minus the 80s for obvious reasons. Overview of items and some photos here: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/gms/4728504261.html
Y’all come!
Rest in peace, MarBar.
AJC advanced rumors yesterday that “Deborah VanTrece, executive chef/owner of The Catering Company by VanTrece, is set to takeover the troubled restaurant.”
I hope someone can save it. A seafood-driven Mexican place is a concept that we need. Just do it better.
She’s not continuing the same theme–the article says it’ll be a new concept.
Along the Mexican-themed restaurant line, does anyone know what’s up with Dos Madres?? Is that still a go?
I believe so. Signs went up fairly recently.
Stopped by Dos Madres the other day, and they told me that they’re very close to opening up.
Yup. And if you are curious, they will be at the Decatur Wine Festival, sharing samples of their cuisine.
Dos Madres has a chef and they are hiring staff now, so it will be opening soon.
I will miss it.
So it’s definitely gone? We tried to go Tuesday night — it was locked and dark with no explanation.
A group of us tried to go Tuesday as well. Very sad to have them close.
I think the recent AJC review resulting in zero stars may have really had an impact. A bit unfair if you ask me.
Hate to see it… but I’m not sure you can just close up and go on vacation for months and expect to succeed in such a competitive environment.
Is there a paint recycling opportunity tomorrow or did I dream it?
I don’t think it was a dream … Phoenix School maybe? Thanks for the reminder.
Tomorrow at Fernbank Science Center there are two great events: Chemistry Day (this year’s theme: CANDY) from noon to 3, which is free. Lots of demonstrations including some hands-on stuff. Also, at 1 PM: Fun With Flashlights in the planetarium. It’s for kids from zero to six yrs old and their parents, and the concept is: wear a costume, bring a flashlight, and participate in the world’s greatest totsourced planetarium show. I have never been but April Whitt (one of the astronomers) tells me it’s the most adorable Fernbank event of the year.
I noticed that DaVinci’s Pizza has finally put up their sign at the old Mellow Mushroom location.
I can’t wait!
I want to go with a large group sometime so I can say I had a fifty buck pizza.
Saturday, 11 a.m. Front Lawn of First Baptist Decatur (corner of Clairemont and Commerce) – Doggie Day – a celebration of guide dogs and other helping dogs. Sponsored by Disability Link.
Wednesday October 29 5:30-7:30 p.m. FREE FALL FESTIVAL – Candy and games for kids in costumes. Check out the Decatur Farmers’ Market at the same time.
Don’t Forget the 2nd Annual Avondale Estates Garden Club Tree Walk October 25th
Mother Nature will reveal the newest colors in her fall collection during the second annual Avondale Tree Walk on Saturday, October 25th from 10:00 am- Noon. Sponsored by the Avondale Estates Garden Club as a conservation project, this year’s walk will include beautiful specimens chosen by the Tree Walk Committee to strut on the catwalk of Avondale Estates.
Local arborists who will lead the walk include Mark Livingston, Arborguard; Gretchen Musser, Elements of Landscape Design; Neil Norton, ISA Certified Arborist; Gary Peiffer, Dekalb Co. Extension Agent; Steve Sanchez, HGOR; and Joan Scales, U.S. Forestry Commission.
Tree Walk Guides will point out the enormous benefits trees add to the urban environment, such as:
• For every ton of new wood that grows, about 1.8 tons of carbon dioxide is removed from the air and 1 .3 tons of oxygen is produced;
• One recent study reported that urban trees could be about 10 times as effective as forest trees for lowering carbon dioxide in cities;
• Trees provide climate control & moderate the “heat island” effect of the urban setting;
• Trees protect soil and water quality.
To take part in this free event, meet in the parking lot of the Avondale Community Club at 59 Lakeshore Drive at 10:00 am. A new feature of this year’s walk will be the opportunity to ask a panel of experts about any concerns homeowners have with trees in their landscapes. The Avondale Estates Garden Club is a member club of The DeKalb County Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc., The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., the Redbud District of GCG, and the National Garden Clubs, Inc.

Who was doing fireworks about 12:20 am on Friday night/Saturday morning?
Mingei (formerly next to Java Monkey) open and having a sale today – next to Duck’s Kitchen off College. I have found many quirky holiday gifts there and beautiful handmade, fair trade jewelry.
It’s not just a sale but a clearance. Mingei is leaving the EDS location and going pop-up and internet. So sorry to see them go, but hoping that somebody will open a bong store in EDS.
If we can’t have a liquor store in Decatur, then we certainly can’t have a bong store.
Is the place next to Java Money, the previous location of Mingei, a bong shop? Sort of? Well, hookahs and e-cigs, but to me all that inhale-flavored-smoke stuff is all of the same ilk …
How do we pass new laws in Decatur? I hereby propose that claiming a table at Farm Burger when your group hasn’t completely arrived be made a felony, punishable by banishment from the city limits.
I wish local restaurants would staff up when they KNOW there’s an event happening in their back (or front) yard! We had quite the ordeal trying to eat at a certain Irish pub on the square after yesterday’s Halloween parade… our server left without telling us and there was ONE server left for the whole place.
